I liked The Paris Key. It turned predictable and I was somewhat annoyed by some repetitive descriptions of locksmithing and the questioning tone at the end of several chapters. I also found there were too many characters without enough character development. However, I had a taste of what living in Paris could be like. I must say that this book appealed to me at first because the book jacket was so beautiful. I would give it 3 1/2 stars so I rounded up to 4.
This is a collection of short stories which are themed around the French and affairs; it took me just over an hour to read this book. I adore Tatiana de Rosnay's work so I pre-ordered it and couldn't wait to read it but to be honest, I should have waited and read it through the library. However, I do want to support one of my favourite authors so when all is said and done, I do not regret purchasing A Paris Affair. I would love to be able to chat with Tatiana, to ask her what drove her to write about such a subject...the experiences of friends? Her own? Are affairs an absolute norm of the French culture? Do the majority of woman expect that their spouse will not be faithful and are therefore never surprised when it happens? And does the same apply for men in this modern day? At the end of the book, I felt a sense of overwhelming gratitude that I am not married to a Parisian.
I hope there's a third book to follow, to completely wrap up Louisa's story. It would be great to hear about her New York adventures and whether she ends up with Sam in the end.
Great story with some unexpected twists; such beautiful writing.
I adore Marisa de los Santos' writing...adore...I couldn't put this novel down. Great characters and a wonderful story about family...secrets...conflict...resolving conflict...scandal...lost love...found love...rekindled love. Thank you Marisa for sharing your talent once again.
This was a quick read but had so much depth in what wasn't said. I think this would be a good book club selection- I'd love to discuss so much of it. It was interesting how Strout's writing style and voice echoed Lucy's manner and childhood. 3.75 stars.
3 1/2 stars...I really enjoyed this novel and was completely wrapped in it until the last 50-75 pages...I found the ending to be flat and it took me two evenings just to get through it.
