Unbearably boring. Nothing happens except Ava being a bitch.

Super freaking cute found family story, but the low stakes and the lack of depth made it a slow read for me.

Horns

The initial idea is great. Much like the Lucifer TV show, our protagonist wakes up with a devilish ability (and horns) to make people confess their truest feelings.

Then it veers into a backstory that has paragraph upon paragraph about female virginity that made me a little nauseous, and was boring to boot.

Giving up at 29%.

A brilliant thriller with all the beautiful writing of literary fiction. I watched the show a few years ago, yet even knowing the ending, I was still invested every step of the way.

All of the creeping existential dread of House of Leaves and Annihilation but with none of the irritating ambiguity! Also it's surprisingly funny.

I tried so hard. Made it 178 pages but I'm giving up.
funny lighthearted medium-paced

I genuinely laughed out loud at some points, and cringed so hard I hurt my face at others.

I only made it 30 minutes into the audio. Unbearably sexist and racist.

I can't tell if Allegra was supposed to be autistic or if Hrdlitschka just couldn't handle writing relationships, but either way, I spent most of my time here cringing. Every interaction Allegra had with anyone was painful.

I also think the teacher behaved extremely inappropriately, and it made me feel gross that the overwhelming message is that Allegra did something wrong.
