An epic tale of interspecies war, romance, family, ghosts, assassins, and trees that become rocket ships. I loved the framing device of the child born on the first page narrating the story through handwritten notes explaining details and dropping hints about the future. It's a magical and engrossing story; I couldn't put it down and finished it in one sitting.
The deluxe edition has an interview with the creators and their explanation of how the story is written and the art is designed.

Nothing in this episode made any sense. And I'm so tired of the art style changing every issue.
The art was excellent and the horror was, well, horrific. Unfortunately there was no exposition, no plot, and an ending that was more "oh dear" than satisfactory.
As much as I love the Rat Queens, this installment was pretty weak. There was no romance, and even the partying was pretty laidback. I was disappointed that the cliffhanger from Volume 3 was completely ignored, and I don't like the new artist. It still deserves the three stars because the Rat Queens themselves are thoroughly delightful. Braga was a good straight man to their hijinks, and the (althoughly annoyingly unexplained) existence of Hannah's father was fun, as was Violet's brother.
