This is a book of facts about salt. Plenty of these facts are interesting on their own, but Kurlansky does nothing to enhance this. This book feels like he got really excited about the topic, did a bunch of research, and then went "Oh, fuck, I have no idea how to turn this into a book. Welp, here's my notes, have at!" And his editors just printed them up.
Three very cute, very sexy Christmas romances.
When I was in elementary school I read a book called Afternoon of the Elves. And I thought it was a book about elves.
I read it again at 21. It was not a book about elves.
This is one of those books that is really two stories. One, for children, about a girl who sees horses in mirrors and must rescue one when it comes through to her side. And another, for adults, about a girl with tuberculosis who cannot cope with the loss of her family amidst a backdrop of the second world war.
I would recommend both stories.

A perfectly sexy, heart-warming Christmas story.
This is a hilarious book that will likely lead to self-analysis in the reader. Dickens is marvelous at dark humor; reminding the reader that we will all be dead soon, so the least we can do is be kind to each other. I enjoyed his digs at religion that sat confidently alongside his respect for Christmas.
Despite the awful reviews, I read this book because someone described it as similar to an episode of Scooby Doo, so I couldn't resist. If you want a horror book that is as easy to finish and over the top as an episode of Scooby Doo, this is the book for you.
A surprisingly sad and poignant memoir from my favorite comedian. I learned so much about his life that I didn't expect, like the insane number of back to back marathons he ran for charity. Definitely recommend the audiobook, as Izzard himself narrates it and goes off on wonderful and outrageous tangents that aren't in the print book.
Like company at a holiday party, this book is charming but forgettable. I thought it would be a Christmas themed book, but it actually takes place in midsummer. It's a cute introduction to a Christmas-themed island village, but the lack of plot makes it hard to care much what happens to anyone.
This strange book has a lot of cool things going on: ancient Egyptian texts, deathlessness, a dash of romance, desert landscapes, monsters, and a wide variety of guns. Unfortunately, this grocery list of cool doesn't make up for the fact that there really is no plot. Everything just kind of meanders along until the big showdown at the end, but it isn't very satisfying because you spend the first two-thirds of the book not sure what the goal is.
