This book is full of romance, friendships, action, dragons, and plot twists! The story starts with Kerrigan and Fordham taking a trip to the magically imprisoned House of Shadows. Fordham struggles with who his family and people are and who he has become since he has come to know Kerrigan. Kerrigan tries to keep up with the constant political scheming within the House of Shadows and the hot and cold from her dark prince.

One of the best relationships in the book is between Kerrigan and her dragon! They struggle through Society training with their lack of bond, attempting to fake it while also taking out frustrations on one another. During the hard work, fear of failure, and many adventures along the way animosity turns into partnership and partnership turns into friendship. Kerrigan continues to display spirit magic abilities without having a teacher to assist her to master them, leading to some dangerous consequences for her.

As Kerrigan finds herself outed as the lost royal princess, some relationships are mended and others are broken. Dozen and Fordham may not be the only men fighting over Kerrigan anymore. As she navigates powerful men, Society training, a defective dragon bond, and dangerous magic, she must also keep her eye on the Red Masks as they continue to hunt humans and half-fae, and they might just be doing it from within the Society itself.

The human kingdom of Gaur and the Kai kingdom of Bast-Haradis plan to ally with one another, but their people certainly are not accustomed to one another. The Gauri are taken aback by the wolffish pointed teeth and sharp claws of the Kai, and the Kai by the darting equine pupil filled eyes and square teeth of the Gauri. But a Gauri noblewoman, fair of skin, blue of eye, red of hair; and a Kai prince, gray of skin, yellow of eye, black of hair, are to be married. Ildiko and Brishen, upon initial meeting, find each other absolutely hideous and equally charming.

The couple form a fast friendship built upon mutual respect, patience, understanding, and a desire for companionship.

“Loneliness is an empty void. We look for that friend in the light. Or in the case of humans, in the dark. Will you be that for me, Ildiko, that beacon in the void?”

“The void is vast, like the sea at night and no land in sight. I’ll be the beacon, Brishen.”

Grace Draven weaves together political intrigue and assassination attempts with the most beautiful romance, an epic slow burn. I’ve got to say I always thought I was a ‘villains to lovers’ girl, but this has to me dying for ‘friends to lovers’! And we are left with an epilogue that points us to where the next book may be headed, as long as there is more Brishen and Idilko, I’ll be happy!

The Kai Queen Secmis, no longer content with her power, unleashes demons upon the world to do her bidding. These demons, however, do their own bidding and kill her and the rest of the royal family residing in Haradis. As the only surviving member of the royal family, Brishen rises to the King of a kingdom facing tragedy.

"The prince of no value has become the most coveted Kai in all of Bast-Haradis."

As Brishen plans to save his kingdom, it is Ildiko who realizes what she loves most is slipping away. To fight the demons, Brishen must lead an army of the dead. But if he returns, as King he will be expected to produce an heir, something that she as a human cannot provide to a Kai.

"Privilege gives the crown its shine. Duty gives it its weight."

Eidolon is action packed from beginning to end! While we get more romantic moments with our favorite couple, we get hard moments for them too. Both see their duty to the kingdom, but in different ways and in how much they are willing to sacrifice.
