It was a quick read, so it is hard to consider the book a waste of time, but it certainly wasn’t a good use of it. The unfortunate style might have been redeemed if the plot had been remotely diverting.

Retellings always bring predictability, but in this case, I was drawn in by the details specific to this Welsh iteration of the Robin Hood tale.

Polek’s first effort is impressive, interrogating the nature of truth and communication through a number of very short stories.

This book is beautifully illustrated. Just stunning. Like put up on your wall amazing. And the scary stories manage to surprise you a little.

This is easily one of the most fascinating books I’ve ever read. It took me a long time to get through it because I couldn’t stand to give it anything less than my full attention. No matter your background, this book will teach you 1) something you’re surprised you didn’t know 2) something you’d rather you now not know 3) something you thought you already understood but only really knew what you’d heard from others. If you’ve ever wondered what in the world is a neoliberal or neoconservative, and you have the spoons, then this is the book for you.

This book was clearly well researched, I only wish it had been more meticulously edited and that the author had done more to connect the historical evidence and his conclusions.

I don’t want to be accused of ignoring the artistry in Emezi’s writing. Each of their words seemed to be intentional, beautiful in the way one pushed on the next. However, I could not take the godly possession at face value; instead, it was too closely a disturbing manifestation of all the excuses one makes to avoid taking accountability for one’s actions. Dissociation as an excuse, as opposed to an unbidden experience. As a result, I could not at all enjoy the book.

My favorite part of this book is the insight into Bella’s friends behavior and personalities revealed by Edward’s mind-reading. Meyer’s writing, unsurprisingly, has dramatically improved since Twilight, but her voice still rings true to the other books.
