This was really mediocre. I went in knowing nothing, and while the premise was good (unreliable narrator, weird house, strained relationship w her mom) it fell flat and the build up to the end was rushed and had no emotional payoff. It had the spooky vibes but that was it

This was… strange. Some parts of the writing were really strong and drew me in but I had to take multiple breaks because I was feeling bored and while the context of all the familial relationships was nice, it felt like a lot of “telling”. Also there wasn’t really a cosmology of monsters. The book was sufficiently creepy but overall missed the mark.

I love love love horror novels that are about religious trauma. The whole unpacking of the mc’s missing memories was interesting. It did suffer a little from tell not show but it was such an interesting story and I was drawn in from the very beginning

That was certainly a book. The clinical way the slaughter, breeding and hunting of humans was strange. I get why it happened but it was strange. Something about the book was both overwhelming and underwhelming. Will need to think about my rating more

The start and middle were really really slow, I didn’t really get into it until the last third or so, but I love lesbian vampires and the amount of queer rep was fantastic. I really enjoyed how the different relationships were portrayed and it felt like a fresh take on the vampire story
