I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I devoured this book in one sitting. A thrilling story of love, war and revenge. The main character's dark actions are driven by her love for her brother, who died too soon to the horrors of war. In between it all, there are tales of her love and trysts with other women, and her strange relationship with the holy man who came to take her last confession.
Also, I didn't expect that ending, but it was more satisfying and perfect than I thought it would be.

This is one of those books that pulls you into a new world and doesn't let go. I'm invested in the characters and fascinated by the story. This is very much first in a series, though, so the reader should be prepared to have many questions unanswered at the end.

A dark fantasy Sleeping Beauty with zombies! This was an interesting concept, but the female characters were what really made it great. Briar and Isabelle are both very interesting, science-minded girls. Briar (Sleeping Beauty) being a fantastic inventor was an unexpected character trait, and I loved how excited she was about seeing all the things invented while she was asleep.
There is a love triangle that seems more-or-less solved by the end of the book, but I found both guys lovable.
The worldbuilding was a bit amusing - the Kingdoms have rather simple names, but at least they are easy to remember. I liked the lore surrounding fairies and djinns, though, and the twist about the nature of the curse.
CW: a lot of gore and body horror. identity issues, violence, blood, zombies, etc

I admit, I didn't expect where this mystery was going. The plot and the characters subverted my expectations, and plotlines that I thought were irrelevant ended up tying together. I was expecting it to be faster paced.
Joseph is kind of an idiot, though.
CW: pedophilia, murder, suicide, violence, blood, vomit

I'm just horribly bored. This is definitely more slow-paced than I expected.
