more interested in other books rn. I think romance just isn't my genre. it's not bad, just not what I want rn
Cybernetic Revolutionaries: Technology and Politics in Allende's Chile
DID NOT FINISH: 33%
Due date came around and I just have too much stuff to read. Good book, fascinating topic but a bit too dense for my bandwidth right now.
The Birth of the Pill: How Four Crusaders Reinvented Sex and Launched a Revolution
DID NOT FINISH: 17%
I find the subject matter here really interesting but between my unlikeliness to finish this before it returns on Libby and the author's weird choices re: the more pernicious parts of this story (soft apologia for Sanger's racism and eugenics, etc.) I just don't feel that motivated to finish it.
Moderate: Racism, Abandonment
Minor: Rape
Just wanting to prioritize other books right now. This one deserves more attention than I can give it at the moment. Also, apparently the audiobook on Libby isn't the updated version? That's annoying.
Too many other things I'm enjoying more right now. This feels really unfocused in comparison to its predecessor. May revisit.
The (amateur, non-credentialed) translator is one of those "classical liberal" ghouls and it shows in his commentary and translation choices. Looked up his bio and was just really disgusted, can't get it out of my head. Will hold onto this as a reference for any future Cthulhu Dark Ages games I run but I don't really want to read any more of this right now. I do find this topic interesting, though - will definitely be on the lookout for books on the topic from a more reputable source.
any author that uses the word "pediphile" to describe a foot fetishist should be shoved in a locker.
Graphic: Body shaming, Misogyny
Moderate: Infidelity
just felt a bit too heavy for where I'm at emotionally rn.
The premise of this book is really interesting and there are aspects of it that I'm enjoying but for one reason or another it's just not grabbing me. Might try it again at some point - I think this is just not what I want to read right now as opposed to not what I want to read at all.
Graphic: Gore
Minor: Antisemitism
I'm not usually a romance reader, wanted to give this a try but it was just immediately a huge no from me
