Murder After Christmas

This book was really boring. Well-written but dull.
emotional funny lighthearted medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

This was a fun queer YA rom-com. The basic plot is a bit predictable from the start, but the subplots are really well done and tie into the story in a way that keeps the plot moving at good pace. My only real complaint was that the family conflicts which were very serious and apparent throughout seemed quickly wrapped up and excused toward the end. The banter in this book was fun and quotable in a quirky way. The cast of characters all foiled well. I enjoyed this one.

CNC is a controversial topic at best, but that aside, the back story seemed disjointed. It almost seemed like the spice/camp was decided upon first and then the plot created to try and make that make sense, instead of the plot being first and then spice/camp being a piece of that. A character that can only org*sm when engaged in CNC is an icky criteria at best, but also made the relationship seem less believable/interesting because it is one-dimensional. Not the worst, but not for me.

This was a really good entry into the series. I think it expanded the world of the series a lot, the spice was well done and there was a lot more diversity in this book than the previous two.

I enjoyed the starcrossed lovers type of story, but the explanation of the conflict seemed a lot weaker in this one than the first one. I think it flowed very well with continuity from the first book.
