challenging informative reflective

This was a well-written review of a long-standing study. Overall it presents the data in a way that is easily understood. The study definitely has limitations, which the author details and indicates what concepts need further research. This study is wide reaching, studying not only the women who had the abortion, but outcomes of their children (both those conceived before and subsequent to the abortion). It is a bit odd reading back when they are discussing Roe v Wade and the potential outcomes of the change in the court.

Many of the detracting statements I've seen say it is flawed because they only looked at women who wanted an abortion. That is explained multiple times in the book, and comparing the outcomes of women who wanted an abortion but were unable to have them with women who never wanted an abortion and didn't get one, tells us nothing about outcomes, as their wants and needs were different.

This is a thrilling story told in an unconventional way. It mirrors actual society in which we get multiple perspectives from lots of individuals in the community, both related and unrelated to the event. The three main “Promise Boys” are all students with different friend groups, personalities and motives for the murder. But who is the killer?

I think this is a great YA which manages to mirror the real world, use technology in a way that isn’t dating to the book, and provide some misdirects that work!

Overall the book itself is incredibly well researched, detailed and written in a way that keeps readers interested although a lot of the first 1/2 is repetitive by nature of what occurred. I think the author does well at presenting a balanced look at what the doctors were thinking as well as the feelings of the families and law enforcement.

My biggest issue with the book is how it is organized. The first half of the book contains about 7 chapters and then the second half of the book has only 2 chapters (totaling approx 250 pages together). While they were cohesive, they should have been better divided into small sections. (For reference chapters in the first section were approximately 1-1.5 hours on the audiobook and the chapters in the second section were almost 4 hours and 5 hours each.

This is marketed as romance but I think it is more women's fiction than a romance. As one of the two main character's is a ghost, the story is more about a young woman coming to terms with her father's death and learning to believe in her dream again than specifically about the romance itself.

Either way, overall I enjoyed it. The pacing was good, the characters were likeable and it kept me entertained throughout. This one can pull on the heartstrings at some points.

This book was a haunted house story with a twist and overall it was really enjoyable.

I think the attempt to make it interconnected story weakened it. The stories on their own weren't bad, but the author continued to force in the underlying plotline for the town. In all honesty, I think I would have enjoyed the stories better without them. As they had to play into the repetitive "man goes mad" to fit into the underlying plotline, it felt like I was reading six repetitive novellas which made me tired about 1/2 way in. I basically skimmed through the 5th story and barely finished the sixth.

Ann Rule's true crime reads like a novel. This was a book that was more complicated than a lot of true crime stories because of the number of crimes as well as the long distance over which the crimes were committed. The book does well at focusing it through one pair of investigators and focusing the more detailed sections on a small number of crimes, but still discussing the large number of crimes and victims.

This book is a MUST-READ. It’s a YA Psychological Thriller (I think it leans horror) that follows two young black girls try to figure out the mysteries of a derelict mansion, in parallel POVs 10 years apart. Each of the girls has a difficult relationship with her mother and is trying to figure out the next step of becoming an adult. I think the plot twists are really well placed and the pacing is good. One of them was a little bit predictable, but they expanded on it in a good way.

I absolutely loved both Daisy and Brittney, each struggling with their own identities. This book is thrilling, a great mystery, has well done horror elements and social commentary on how the identity of young black women. The main characters and the supporting ones are written with depth and the world is well-rounded and fleshed out. It has so much say and keeps you hooked the entire time as you experience each MCs own timeline and how everything ties together.

This book had a very interesting premise but similar to other BL books I have read, made a point to add multiple instances of sexual violence towards female characters for the shock value that added absolutely nothing to do with the plot. If you remove every instance from the plot, it's just as scary (if not more) and the plot does not change at all.

This was an excellent collection of stories. While they shared common themes, there were stories in the genre of literary fiction, magic realism, and some horror and contemporary fiction. I highly recommend.
