First of all, listen to the audio book if you can, because hearing Ali read this book to you adds to the experience. This is a hilarious memoir in the style of a series of letters to her daughters. Ali takes us through her childhood and career progression, dropping gems on giving birth, choosing your career, picking a good Asian restaurant, and much more. And even though it's funny (and very graphic), there's nothing fluffy about this memoir, showing her wit, awareness, and intelligence (except the distance to the Moon thing).
A comprehensive account of the journey of race throughout the history of the United States, highlighting the historical and current role of the American church in establishing and/or perpetuating racial inequality. Well-written and researched, and combines a great combination of broad context and intimate details of the history of race in America. Tisby answers every question that one might ask about racism in the church, and offers ideas on the ways to move forward.
Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead
As usual, Brene wrecked my life and sent me into serious self-reflection mode.
Cheryl Strayed's insights and writing are so beautiful. I'd recommend this to anyone who needs a little perspective on life
You know, I liked this way more than I thought I would! Keller always brings a clarity of thought, and a biblical perspective to his writing that I have to admire. I did disagree with some of his sweeping generalizations, but overall I found this to be a really great read on building a marriage from a biblical perspective (though a rather conservative one). Def recommend for anyone wanting a solid book about marriage as a Christian.
This book has a gentle but insistent pace that makes it hard to put down. Ling Ma makes us consider what it means to live until the end of the world, when you have so little to lose, and yet everything to live for. What does it mean to live in a city when the city can no longer function?
He isn't deep. All he wants is a pretty face. That's all they ever want.
Short and amazing! Loved the premise of this one, and it does not go where you think it will.
