I be seeing you, especially when you think you be doin a great job of hiding. Maybe you be seein me too.
This may be the most important thing I've read this year. It is rare that a man, especially a black man writes about body image and eating disorders, and rarer still that we get writing from anyone on body image and eating disorders in the context of racism and generational poverty. Kiese Laymon's memoir touches on all the intersections of poverty and oppression, and how they compound the challenges of addiction and eating disorders.
This is both deeply personal and also a brilliantly written, politically developed piece of writing. Kiese Laymon writes his memoir to his mother, so much of it is in the second person, which gives the reader much more of a sense of sitting in on someone else's private thoughts. It's so amazing, and I could not stop once I started this one. Also, he reads the audiobook himself, which adds another layer to the narrative, so I highly recommend listening to this one.
I think it's possible to be broken and ask for help without breaking other people.

Thorough exploration of the role of your enneagram type in spiritual formation. Chris Heuertz takes a detailed approach into enneagram types, their basic fears and virtues, the lies each type tells themselves and then uses these to suggest paths for spiritual growth based on your enneagram type. Dense, but fascinating and insightful.
This is the first thing I've really read on the Enneagram, so this was a really interesting primer on the nine types. It's fascinating. The book dedicates a chapter to each of the nine types and details the type, healthy and unhealthy habits, how they act/interact in relationships, and as children, how they react to stress, and then spiritual formation tips.
Funny, sad, and filled with lots to think about when it comes to communicating, especially with the people I love the most
I have so many thoughts. Austin's writing is incredible and she totally nails all the points of blackness in a white world, especially in a white world where folks think they're woke. Everything from her chapter titles or her anecdotes to her analysis had me snapping and yelling because she's out here telling the absolute truth. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in reading about race in the 21st century, especially in Christian spaces.
Sometimes it just takes one.
This book is a super cute way to teach young kids about bullying, and about justice. Very simple artwork that's just delightful.

Zuri loves her hair, but she's having a hard time coming up with the perfect style for a special day. Fortunately, she has her dad to help her! This is a simple story but with so much happening under the surface.
