I’m not a classics fan so I’ve never read or watched Great Gatsby. Shocking! I know. So when I started this book I had no idea what to expect and I can’t tell you how good of a retelling is compared to it.
What I can tell you is how beautifully written this story is. It has a lot of queer (especially trans) and Latine representation, and although there’s trigger warnings for homophobia, racism, and colorism, the author did a great job protecting the reader from this subjects dealing with them in such a careful way.
The book was really fun, the characters were lovable and felt real, and I honestly didn’t want to put this one down.

It comes out on September 6th so you should consider preordering this one.

Thank you @macmillan.audio for letting me listen to this book in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this sequel and it went in a direction I didn’t expect but I gladly welcome. I like book 1 which I loved for the plot but not the characters, book 2 made me fall in love with most of the characters and the story went to the background. This book managed to make me cry, laugh and cringe in pain, and I think it was a great wrap up for the story, even if some characters deserved better and others got better than they deserved, but I guess that’s just life.

Roan Parrish did it again!!!
It’s queer, it’s fun, and it made me cry, which are always amazing things to have in a book.
I have to admit having two storylines so loosely connected felt odd and that’s why it’s a 4 and not a 5, but I also understand the need of have them both in the same book and not each in their own book, and when they did connect it felt a lot better.
Truman and Ash were the highlight for me, but Carys was such a mature and well rounded character that just made me love her and appreciate her so much.
This book is full of representation, of beautiful and complicated relationships, and although not one of Parrish’s hotter books, still plenty hot!

This book broke me in the best possible way. Please do not read if you have a cold and your nose is already stuffy because I cried so much I could barely breath!

It had a great pace, a nice worldbuilding especially for the amount of time it had to create a world and characters, and adorable main and side characters. Hart and Mercy were likeable and endearing and their romance gave me life. My only complaint is that Mercy had a change of heart really quick from hate to love, but it was so cutely written I can get past it.

Definitely a 5 stars and an automatic recommendation for anyone who likes romance books with a little of fantasy/paranormal.
