so good!!! i don't rate short stories but wow im definitely going to read real life soon :) also i feel like rating this wouldn't be fair because i mostly read it at school and there were certain parts i should've gone back and reread to fully understand it

ok the story behind this was i finished my other book before school and asked my drama teacher if i could borrow something from his shelves and i picked this bc it was short and easily readable. i read most of it today and i finished it during my last class of the day and immediately walked in his classroom holding it out to him and went "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THIS???" and he LAUGHED at me bc SERIOUSLY WTF DID I READ TODAY??? we had a conversation about it and i could not for the life of me figure out what kafka was trying to say while reading it. my teacher said it's really about change, specifically how parents react when their child becomes their own person/something they don't expect and WOW did everything make so much more sense after that. even now im still connecting dots and thinking about the different family dynamics bc wow. originally i was going to give this 2 stars but after talking through it i bumped it up to 3

3.5/5:

i seriously have no idea how to rate this bc i feel like though it's completely character-centric we still didn't know much about anyone. i still enjoyed it though even though her relationship with food was really not great for me to read so serious TW for eating disorders. it did remind me a lot of the TV show crazy ex-girlfriend and i was talking about it with my drama teacher and we spent the entire period watching cxg music videos so something good came out of finishing this

wow wow wow this book was straddling 4 stars for a long time but the ending and authors more solidified it as 5 stars the only reason i didn't rate it that to start was because the middle-almost end lagged and made me feel claustrophobic but then i was thinking and that's exactly how anna was feeling and i thought it was just so well done. now im going to continue my night with a permanent lump in my throat
