I think it’s time I consider the possibility that short stories might no longer be for me 

Couldn’t do it anymore. Kept wondering when the new perspective on these topics would show up but it just felt like personal stories with a bunch of quotes from studies added throughout. 

I really loved how this book just immediately jumps into the story and that the chapters were short to match the pacing. I will say at times I was confused as to how much time was passing exactly. I think the characters were okay and the main character Ji-won was likable. This story wasn't horror in the scary sense, but it did have some fun scenes with eyes. I found myself relating a lot to what Ji-won was going through and I think that added to the overall experience. For a debut novel I thought this was really good and I'm excited to see where Monika Kim goes next!

I had to sit with my thoughts for a bit. I felt that this book provided me with a fun reading experience and I found myself relating a lot to the main character. But when I take a step back and look at the story as a whole, I do find something lacking. I was not a big fan of the ending; I feel like we follow Gilda through these twists and turns of anxious thoughts regarding different situations in her life and yet they are resolved far too quick for how long we spent building them up. No other character felt anything but one dimensional. 

 

I'm excited to explore her other novels. 

 

 

I really enjoyed this story, although more horror in the sense that what this poor girl goes through dealing with her mom is an act of horror. The main character, Mia, was easy to like and to understand her thought process for her actions throughout. It was an interesting exploration into a very toxic mother-daughter relationship. I understand why the romantic relationship part of the story existed and the purpose it served to Mia's development as character. That being said, her crush Jade was so annoying lmao. 

 

I'm excited to read the next book in the series.

I had a lot of fun with this book despite some small pet peeves of mine (how does she not know a single social media thing ??). I did feel like the end was a bit flat and I wish the author had taken the time to dive more into some of the issues that Margo was facing. This really did make me pause and consider how people actually act in situations that, to the rest of the world, seem to have a very clear answer. It's very easy to say "well I wouldn't do that" and it's like ... well it's not you in that situation so ... you know? 

 

As a fun story to sit with and just enjoy your time I think this was great. But as a story that dives deeper into societal topics including unplanned pregnancies and sex work it's lacking.

I had to finish this before 5pm today so I could return it on time haha!

I definitely enjoyed this far more than I was thinking I would. I really enjoyed how easy it was to follow the story along and how flashbacks intersected throughout the story.
Although halfway through it did start to feel slightly monotonous, the writing style really helped carry me along. I didn't particularly love or hate any of the main characters and none really stood out all that much to me.
The more I think about it the less I really have to say about this book. It was okay and I had fun lmao. 

This took me far longer than a book I was excited about should have. I think I fell victim to overhyping again because I found myself slightly disappointed with the story.
Generally I enjoy a good, plotless fiction type of book, but I could only handle this in chunks. Which is probably worse because the chunks I was reading I was enjoying until I wasn't.

I was hoping for a more tense feeling throughout, but I found myself just thinking "that doesn't sound so bad actually". Perhaps it was part of the story that nothing felt like a real threat, we were Alex this whole and nothing worries Alex. I did really enjoy that everything was contained to this small, vacation town. Even when we get flashbacks, the world never expands beyond what we already know about the way Alex is.

I can't say I didn't have fun because I did, I just didn't have as much fun as I wanted to.

Picked it up again and realized whatever called to me about this book is no longer relevant. Maybe I’ll visit again later. 

I found myself enjoying this book far more than I initially thought I would. I laughed out loud a lot throughout this and although I didn’t particularly find any of the characters lovable I still wanted to keep reading about them. The last 50 or so pages really sealed the deal on this one though, just love the complete change in perspective.
