Holy crap this book was sooooo not for me.
First off, the main character is 17 and can see ghosts.
Then an 18 year old ghost shows up and LITTERALLY two days later they're declaring their love for each other.
And then he watches her eat and it's really weird.
By the way, when they're not canoodeling secretly in her bedroom, there's a shape-shifting demon on the loose taking over the bodies of various footman about town.
There's zero closure to this book - in fact it just straight up STOPS.
It's only 200 pages and I do not like this silly baby characters one bit.
at one point the ghost says he seriously considered killing the only girl who can see him so they can be together forever & she just kisses him in response because it's been three days since they met and she knows he's a good guy deep down.

I thought this would be fun & I've read exactly none Jane Austen.
I kind of know the characters & background from memes & snatches of TV shows people post but this really wasn't my jam.
Not a bad read, kinda cute banter, decent storyline.
Just not for me.

Probably would have been a higher rating if I hadn't read it this close to my mother's death.
I was so delighted falling back into this series after a long break since I enjoy the idea behind them and most of the character but there is such utter sadness buried within.
Sumi is terrifying and delightful in this book.
Jack is falling apart (not literally) and my heart hurts for her.
Alexis is cool as hell.
I had hoped there would be more than the briefest mention of Christopher & Cade, but perhaps they'll get the own stories yet.
As a side note, Seanan pronounces a few words very differently than I have heard them before.

first: the narrator change threw Me for a loop.
second: what a disappointment.
I was so looking forward to this book after the first one (have recommended it highly to everyone who will listen to me talk) but this was one big Long miscommunication.
the last hour resolved it back into the found family that I so adore - and I was intrigued by the ink & how it got there.
but the mystery was so very overshadowed!
I'm not sure If It was too many viewpoints (everyone gets a turn to narrate this book) Or if there were more characters to keep track of, but things seemed to jump out of the blue, be overlooked entirely, or just be assumed.
oh and it ends with obviously setting it up for another book in the series.

I decided 8 pages in I despise Millie....which is, of course, a disappointment because the entire book is from her point of view (until the twist is revealed and the "How to" portion of these books are reached)
She is a whiny, repetitive, awkward person and I do not enjoy how everything is spelled out through her. multiple times. In case you didn't catch it the first time she said it.
The twist was a little more expected this time since this is my second book by this author, but still well enough done & I hadn't guessed all of it. The secondary twist WAS a surprise.
The ending was not & sets it up for more sequels.
Not as impressed this time around & Don't think I'll be picking up more from this author in the near future.

A very sweet story with lots of fluff and banter. Exactly the sort of easy book I needed after a really hard month of real life.
Cute, quick, HEA.
Read it one sitting.

For once I did not see the twist coming. Well, either of the twists.
I guessed at some of the reveals but whoo boy was that a ride.
I don't think I'll be rereading it but I do plan to pick up a few more of these stories.

This book is a beautiful, heartbreaking, magnificent whirlwind of a story and I adored every second of it.
The characters are varied & strong
The world building is done without causing confusion or shoving long descriptions down throats
I LOVED that it was grumpy/sunshine and that each of them had a "thing" they did. Max's "I'm not made for this" delighted me every single time he grumbled it.
There were very heavy topics in this and yet our main two characters overcame and grew through each trial (even if they nearly died along the way)
I highlighted so much from this book (thanks magic ebooks that I can easily tab & colour code!) and I plan to revisit it soon.
Well, after finishing the series.
Current favorite bit from the book:
"Now, absolutely everything was different. All of my certainties had been rearranged, some destroyed, some new ones built in their place. And for the first time in so long, something new altogether had begun to grow in the space between those certainties, something harder to see but more powerful, more dangerous, more beautiful: Possibility."

Ooh what a fantastic book.
First of all, the female character isn't underage!!! She is a human competing in a vampire tournament, but at least she's old enough to drink.
This book has revenge, plots, twists, sword fights, love, family, and sorrow.
I enjoyed how each of the characters is different and each has hidden bits that slowly get revealed.
Nothing is ever straight up told, but presented in a lovely way.
I throughly enjoyed the writing style!
And I have already checked our book two, I enjoyed it that much.
