the murder of two teenage girls happened 8 years ago, was never really looked into by the small town police force, and everyone blamed the lady who's property they were found on.
Each Moon descendent has a different gift - herbs, visions, scents - and the last Moon girl inherits the farm & decides to clear her grandmother's name before selling the property & returning to her life in New York City.
She questions the townspeople, reopens old wounds, and eventually figures out who did it.
Mixed in with the murder plot is reconciliation, a journey to find herself, wisdom from unlikely sources, and a tiny bit of romance.
I highlighted quite a few bits from this book, mostly about loss, love, and forgiveness.
Moderate: Death, Grief, Murder
Minor: Emotional abuse, Violence, Fire/Fire injury, Injury/Injury detail
This book was fantastic and all of the characters are magnificently written.
There were so many twists, betrayals, and sneaky plots and I loved every second of it.
I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen next and it has been so long since I was surprised by a plot.
10 out of 10, would read again, CANNOT wait til the next book comes out
The main characters are insufferable, the way people are written is so odd, and the female characters are described weirdly.
The male main character complains about women, their attributes & temperaments often.
He also said this, which is a big red flag for me:
"I always loved hiring young secretarial trainees from there. The name was so apt. And they were lovely girls. It was the perfect training ground for Sterling & Sterling. There's nothing like a Catholic school education to teach you how to conform."
TS and Lil end up making the murder of TS's boss a race between them & the police to see who can figure it out first.
There are many blunders on both sides along the way, and an old crime ends up being the reason for the multiple murders.
The book was a lot darker than anticipated and I did not enjoy it one bit.

I loved that it was two books inside another - what a clever way to bring the background out while also bringing the plot forward.
This story is part mystery, part tragedy, part romance.
It is set in the 1980s, although the books within the books are from just before World War II (pearl harbor happens near the end of one of those stories)
There are some heavy topics touched on, since the characters were living during them.
I highlighted so many snippets of this book and definitely will be seeking out more from this author.
Moderate: Antisemitism, Grief, War
Minor: Child death, Suicide, Forced institutionalization, Death of parent, War
Lots of bad things happen in a short period of time and yet the story has barely gone anywhere and the cliffhanger is just as big and unfinished as it was in all the others.
I despise not finishing books, and while these are 8 different ones they seriously read as one long story (since the timline is less than a year of Jemma's life)
Graphic: Sexual content, Violence, Blood
Moderate: Cursing, Sexual violence, Pregnancy, Alcohol, Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Addiction, Panic attacks/disorders, Physical abuse, Sexual assault, Stalking
Less Buffy & more supernatural in this book, but very wordy, very slow, and (as is tradition with this series) major cliffhanger
At this point I'm relatively sure I could read the first 5 chapters and the last 5 chapters of each book & get the entire plot / not be confused.
I hate not finishing books so even though I don't like a single character or the way they talk, I'm committed to finishing the series since it is basically one really REALLY long book

Also a descendant of the devil and this book is basically the HellMouth part of Buffy.
Graphic: Death, Suicidal thoughts, Violence, Blood, Grief, Murder, Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Adult/minor relationship, Cursing

None of the characters talk or act like teenagers (except when theyre fighting over each other or pining for the boy when theyre apart). I can understand the reason for the age choice, since you can't really protect an adult from life choices, but they are written more like late 20 year Olds.
I can't believe no one put two & two together before now, given their mom's name.
And Nikki is still the worst.
There is much less secondhand embarrassment in this one, but still not much romance. There's lots of pining & staring & occasionally kissing but that's the extent of it.
Ended on a cliffhanger again - and an even bigger one than last book.
