A huge thank you to Netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review!
This sequel was even darker than Wicked Saints and the characters even more twisted and tortured. The beginning was a little slow to me and there were a few weird jumps in time/narration that had me confused as to how we got to where we were. But the ending had me incredibly irate due to not being able to immediately start the 3rd one. I was fortunate in that I had this one waiting for me when I finished Wicked Saints and that spoiled me.
Overall rating is a 4.25 and I cannot wait to read the next one!

Scavenge the Stars is a "gender-swapped retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo" and if you have read The Count of Monte Cristo, this pretty much tells you everything you need to know. If you haven't read The Count of Monte Cristo:
1. What are you doing with your life? Drop everything and read it immediately. Don't skimp and try to get away with the abridged version either.
2. The Count of Monte Cristo is a long (but worth it) story of ultimate revenge by the good Edmond Dantes who was betrayed by the people he considered his friends.
I liked Scavenge the Stars in the sense that I enjoyed the writing style and I always enjoy a good revenge story. However, it fell a little short in the "The Count of Monte Cristo retelling" department. So far, this is just a story of revenge and is lacking the personal touch. Hopefully, Tara Sim rectifies this in the sequel. It is probably more enjoyable if you haven't read the original story.
This is a 2 star The Count of Monte Cristo retelling for me but it is a 3.5-4 star read in terms of being an enjoyable YA read.

5 stars! This was a powerful and moving story and unfortunately a very fitting read for recent events.
I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the 1st one but it's still a solid fantasy-romance read. It picks up right around where the 1st book left off and my main complaint is that the first half of the book is on the slow side. However, once things got moving, it was much more enjoyable. The cliffhanger ending ensures I'll be reading the 3rd one so I can finally have my questions answered.
Thanks so much to Netgalley and the publisher for the e-arc!

I don't think I have ever read a horror book and there's definitely a reason for that, I don't think they're for me. That being said, I still enjoyed this book since it wasn't "scary." I loved the Native American aspect of it. I just finished reading There, There and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian recently so this seemed like an interesting different direction to go.
I'm terrible about reading descriptions before starting a book (hence why I was surprised that this was horror) so for awhile, I couldn't decide if indeed it was "an entity bent on revenge" or Lewis was going crazy. I got my answer. Because I'm not a horror fan, my favorite parts of the book were more along the lines of the accurate portrayals of life on the Reservation (spoiler, it's not all peachy) and the ostracism that comes from leaving and marrying outside of it.
If you are a horror/thriller fan, I'm sure you will love this book.
