I LOVE that John Gwynne does a recap at the beginning! I took a little bit too long of a break after The Hunger of the Gods before starting this and was concerned about how long it would take to remember where we left off but problem solved! 

I really enjoyed this whole cast of characters, whether they were on the "good" or "bad" side or even somewhere in between. It's a very large list of characters but Gwynne writes them so well that I only struggled to keep track of the most minor characters. Orka is unquestionably my favorite character in the series for two reasons: 1. She's clearly an amazing fighter and I love her dedication to revenge. 2. It is so rare to see a "middle-aged" woman be center stage in a fantasy story! I always struggled to picture her as blonde for some reason though. 

The Norse inspiration continued to be so enjoyable through to the end and this series felt like just the right length. Not everyone makes it to the end, unfortunately, but I would have been disappointed if they had.
