oh I loved this! The cast was awesome but I am just in LOVE with the setting. SO MUCH. But I am also trash for anything even remotely related to the French Revolution. I loved all the touches from Les Mis and the Jungle Book. I adore the relationship between Nina and Ettie.
Eh I feel like I maybe would've enjoyed this like ten years ago but it didn't do much for me sadly
Omg YASSSSS THIS WHOLE STOKER SIBLINGS AND VERONICA SITUATION IS DAMN GOLD! I loved all the characters development Stoker's brother got in this book rather than just being an under development potential side piece. I snort laughed (as always) continuously throughout and I CANNOT WAIT until we get the fifth book. Now I gotta try her Lady Julia series soon
I...ugh. I really wanted to like this. I was so pumped for it and then it has a pretty cover but I barely got to chapter 4 and had to put it down. There was just so much teenage angsty feel to it which I just don't enjoy.
3.5/5
This was a really fun sci-fi. I liked all the characters and the world but I found myself a bit bored at times. I'm having a hard time finding YA books that offer something new to the genres that keep me interested so this could totally just be me and my tastes.

This was fun! I enjoyed the plot overall which is definitely more relatable to me than the world of Crazy Rich Asians. The main character is not necessarily likeable the whole book and at certain points I was like "you guys are drinking to the level and purpose of being alcholics. Please don't sweep this under the rug" which...isn't dealt with AS THOROUGHLY as I hoped but it is addressed. The romance triangle was particularly interesting--having the main character balance what her mother NEEDS/DEMANDS of her with who she wants but is not available. I also though the work dynamic of promotions added another element to make things very complicated!
This was really interesting. I know of more recent cases of nurses having hero complexes and ending up being murderers but I knew nothing of Jane Toppan. The book is less filled with info-dumping or peppered with stats and written more like a fiction novel where you are beside Jane watching what it was like growing up and what lead her into nursing and murdering. I think this would appeal more to people who are new to true crime or readers who do not like very gory true crime.
I love finding books with a character with my name! This was fun. I've literally never read a book where Trent, Ontario was mentioned so that was a pleasant surprise. I liked this. I loved all 3 main girls and the different aspects of society they came from and represented. I feel like we glorify countries who fought the Nazis and then totally ignore all the xenophobic and racist things we did. We talk a tiny bit about Japanese internment camps in Canada but I've literally never heard anyone mention what we did to people of German origins.
So I went into this remembering hearing about Samantha missing on the news but nothing else really. I came out with 2 things:
1. a better understanding of what happened to Samantha
2. absolute fury at law enforcement at every level.
The sheer number of fuck ups is ASTOUNDING. YOU'RE TRAINED IN LAW ENFORCEMENT AND YOU DON'T CHECK THE SHED OF A MAN IN CUSTODY FOR KIDNAPPING SOMEONE?!

After countless serial killers, murderers and just criminals, in general, have gotten away with things for long periods of time because of law enforcement failing to talk to each other across jurisdictions...AND LAW ENFORCEMENT STILL DON'T TALK TO EACH OTHER...

Ugh I needed this so bad. It was so freaking good! I loved the main characters. The conflicts between them were believable and logical to me! The sex scenes were good! The discussion on Latinx representation in entertainment was very prevalent. The treatment of women vs. men in celebrity news highlighted! I got everything I needed in this!
