Update: wait...there's a sequel now?!

Ohhhh this was actually fun and not what I was expecting! It kinda reminded me of Stalking Jack the Ripper and some Frankenstein. Victorian era sexism really does piss me off. The romance was kinda cheesy but I actually didn't mind it. Lots of mystery and science which I'm always a sucker for. Pretty decent for a sci-fi/fantasy stand alone.

Why do I love historical fiction?! They just make me angry! Really interesting book with tons of evaluation and information about racism. Honestly, the exact same crap is happening now so I couldn't even be like "man, thank God it's not like that anymore!"

really amazing book

Colour me VERY curious about the sequels. Who is the other Queen? How did they figure out who was Light and who was Blood? I like how and how often the prophecy was used in this.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book through my job.

OMG I can't wait for this book to come out so I can discuss it with people. Essentially, if you loved the first one then I think you're going to love the sequel. The tone and pace felt the same to me but with more focus on the plot rather than the Gilmore Girls style banter (which I loved but wasn't quite as frequent). I kept getting frustrated because of conflicts in the book but the ending gave me relief. It's a solid ending to this duology.

My only complaint was the lack of screen time Ridel got. It seemed like Tricia Levenseller almost wanted to make this a trilogy and kind of set it up to do that in some spots but then had to quickly wrap it up. I would read a whole book of just Alosa & Riden or Alosa & her crew or...just Alosa being Alosa lol

Oh hell yes! This book 😍😘😍😘😍😘😍😘😍😘
It's just so bad ass! I loved getting a peak at Julius Caesar and Cleopatra too! I loved the sister relationship and the romances and the badass fight at the end! There's so much manipulation! It's just SO👏GOOD👏!

Cannot wait for my copy of The Defiant to show up and omg I am stoked for this to get it's TV show!

I really enjoyed this book which is a relief because I heard a lot of mixed reviews. It didn't end on a huge cliffhanger but there's obviously lots of potential for the sequel which I will definitely pick up. I was not expecting like...Any of the deaths or appearances because I was so interested in the world and time period. I liked the balance between violence, romance, love and hate

Now that was a really bloody ending! only con was I could tell the big betrayal by the mid way point. Really curious what direction the third book is gonna go in.

Man, I freaking LOVED this book! It's like X-men or The Darkest Minds with Illuminae! The romance was SO GOOD! SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot wait for the sequel!

*jaw dropped smiling* NO! Omg! Lu gets an applause for that ending.

I'm not sure if I agree with the "ethical" side or the "evil" side cause I would love to have the ability to make some politicians be forced to do logical and legal shit instead of what they currently do.

This wasn't as "Ready Player One" as I was hoping but I enjoyed it. The romance slowly won me over and then got blown up at the end tearing my heart out. if the romance had been less cheesy and ridiculous and predictable then it would've been 5 stars. The romance could've easily been replaced by a deep friendship or teacher/student relationship...both of which would've been more original.

Ah! Excited for the sequel and also to see what the cover will look like. I love it when science and technology gives me an inner struggle or ethics and morals.

This was a cute book. Obviously a middle grade story based on the happy ending and morals/journey but the lack of romance was kinda refreshing for me. Very few YA and NA books don't include romance. I loved the creativity and I'm really curious about the next book in the series.

Y'all, my love for this book increases every time I read it. Thomas & Audrey forever! :D
