Cute but there was no need for it to be Beauty and the Beast setting and characters. It really didn't play much of a role. I would've loved more characters like Love & Death or bringing in of other myths and such though.

Huh....well the writing was okay and the concept was intriguing but...nothing really seemed to happen. the events in one timeline we're almost identical to the other timeline which was kind of interesting at first but not really by the half way mark.

Huh...I think...I'm not totally sure but I think I liked the book.

Did not understand the majority of the entire thing but the world and magic were cool. I definitely want to read the sequels and I'm pretty curious about the adaptation now.

...still not sure if I liked it or not though...not sure if me being sick has messed with my brain or not...

If you, even remotely, want to have an opinion or stance on refugees or immigrants than you should be required to read this book. It's absolutely infuriating and heartbreaking and...makes me want to just hit the restart button on the entire human race. Why do we keep doing the same shit over and over and over again?!

This is a beautiful book with three lives from different time periods and placed intertwined. All come from the perspective of kids trying to escape horrible circumstances and being met with absolutely garbage human beings thinking they have the right to abuse/judge/block people from surviving.

I'm glad I picked this one up again. An interesting story and I really enjoyed the magic but omg was this story long?! I was just so exhausted by the end! I loved the romance aspect. It was low key and there when needed as well as not being overly ridiculously romantic or using any major annoying tropes. I think the middle section lulled a lot which made the rest of it drag a bit.

This book was alright. I was pretty bored until about halfway in when it finally picked up but I really never started loving it even though there were dragons.

I liked the concept of the clashing people vs the dragons and having a few people in the middle. I liked when we learnt about characters being hidden mixtures but still just never...loved it. I dunno. I think I'll read the sequel but I'm in no hurry because the ending peaked my interest.

Interesting. I'm not a big horror zombie person but this wasn't horrible. I liked the romance but the other relationships just didn't interest me all that much. I get so excited when there's an atheist character and an LGBTQ romance so this book gets extra stars for that! The reasoning for the Zombie ppl just seemed a little all over the place. I think I'll keep an eye out for the sequel on BookOutlet.

I liked this! Not my favourite historical fiction of the week but still! It was a pretty slow start and I didn't really end up loving any of the characters the way I hoped but the pace got better and the magic inner battling & mystery/betrayal was interesting. I hope Helen learns to be stronger and stand on her own legs in the sequel and I got the impression that was going to happen. I also enjoyed the role and the way the romance was written.

TRIGGER WARNING FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT.

This was such an interesting read and after 800 pages I am still really eager to read the sequel! This is a really good book for anyone wanting to learn about all the absolute chaos of Russia/Soviet Union of the 1900s. If you enjoy this time and place already though, it's still an enjoyable read. It's crazy how much changed from day to day! Marina is so fascinating and not some pure virginal priviledged girl. She makes mistakes, she gets hurt, she grows, she learns and then she screws up again. She is not perfect but a realistic character--clearly trying to be a good person in an extremely difficult time period and stage of life.

There was a lot more to this book than I thought there was going to be! I loved getting more than one POV in each situation--truly amazing how differently people remember things. The female characters had this amazing ability to be likeable and not timid and a little strong while still being historically realistic. The contrast between the classes was done really well and throughout. I found the author did a really good job of making everyone's story realistic while also interesting to read (ie. no happily ever after but it's not depressing). I do wish there had been more of the boxing/fighting scenes.
