Oh my god! I want to kill so many people right now! I wanted a happily ever after! WHY WONT MY SHIPS EVER HAPPEN WITHOUT CHAOS AND A TRILOGY?! Why?!
Okay so I loved the emphasis on the use of religion to control women with claims of witchcraft! I need to see more of the magic used like at the end cause...there's gotta be a BIG battle by the end of this trilogy and I am SO EXCITED FOR THAT! I have a feeling the sister is actually the "chosen one" or all 3 sisters have mind magic. I also appreciated the sibling struggle cause...as someone with 3 siblings...we don't all sing cumbia 24/7/365. I've never released magical powers but we've had some fights.

This was a really cute and fun read with some good lessons and a strong female lead. I so would've appreciated this book as a kid!
I'll definitely be getting to the rest of this series!

Holy hell! This book! How is there not more hype about this?! Pretty cover and magic!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!
The magic, politics, mystery, backstabbing, selfish acts, dialogue--everything was amazing. The magic was particularly cool and I lived that the main character wasn't just hiding all his powers and they are unlocked and he becomes the savour thing. It's so refreshing. The magical hierarchy influencing the political history was fantastically rolled out to show the whole "history is written by the winners" but it also pointed out "that the truth always comes out." The elder roles are played by 2 HILARIOUS women with some killer dialogue and wisdom. Their sassiness kept me laughing and smiling.
I'm also a sucker for hidden family secrets so this was killer! AND THIS FAMILY'S DRAMA! MY GOODNESS, FAMILY DRAMA! The entire family is backstabbing each other for politics and power and hierarchy and history AND I LOVED IT!
Also, squirrel cats. Yes, I'd like ten of those asap. Thank you.
I don't remember the last time I was so quickly sucked into and started loving a book. I was in lOve by like the third page.

2.5/5
Eh...
I got to the end but I don't get the point of it. It's a rather depressing book on the whole and I kept waiting for some tie up or reveal or something but it never came. It was a relaxing read but nothing particularly memorable. I also found the time jumping and switching of POvs to be rather difficult to follow so I just gave up trying to keep everything straight.

So this was a well-written book and I love the plot but the two main girls are ridiculous and not in a good way. I read this book in half a day but almost stopped a few times because the characters were just so frustrating.
Henri is entitled, self-centred, vengeful and petty AF throughout the whole book. I didn't see any growth from her and the end where she "bared all" didn't even come close to justifying how she abused her sister throughout the whole book.
Emma...its like she perpetually has Stockholm syndrome. Sister of not, there's no reason to allow Henri to treat you like that! She continuously makes excuses for her sister to act like a monstrous human being.
IT SHOULDNT TAKE YOU BEING STRANDED ON A DAMN ISLAND TO START SHOWING HALF AN OUNCE OF CHARACTER GROWTH OR GROWING UP PERIOD.
I'm not crazy about the wrap-up. I don't think Henri really learned to grow up....in fact, she ends up getting to backpack around Europe paid for by her parents! Really unhealthy and (at least to me) an abusive sibling relationship.

Awwwwww! Adult Hook has a bae of his own...and I'm still single!
I really enjoyed this book but I definitely was not expecting the adult scenes 🤣🤣🤣 that caught me off guard but shows like OUAT prepped me to be ready for fairytale sex life. Their dialogue and relationship was so cute but also much more adult than YA normally has.
The old racist terminology was pretttttttttty cringey though... *Shivers grossed out* I'm also pretty exhausted of authors glossing over indigenous characters. They seem just like lazy place holders that never have a culture or identity developed.

Ughhhhh! I hate people! Why are we all such dicks?!

LOVE! It's dark and fast and fulfills my love of fantasy, historical fiction, romance and magic! So much death!
Okay! I read this book in a single day and I'll probably be reading book 2 but...Okay, this book is by no means original and it really expects the readers to lean on tropes. I don't know if it was lazy writing or too much edited out before publishing but it really...desperately needs more character development, world building and relationship evolution...And the backstories were so limited and just completely forgotten and it hurt the story.
