This is such a weird and random yet interesting story. I wasn't even sure if I was enjoying it until I finished it and had watery eyes. It's not a heart pumping action WWII fiction but...more if a historical fiction that evaluates life as a civilian during the Hitler-Stalin power struggle on the Eastern front. It's definitely one I'll re-read every once and a while. Beautifully written. 4.5 out of 5 stars

Well...I finished it but WOW are there ever problems with this book. There is no--absolutely NO-- romantic relationship development between Beauty and Beast. It was like the author just leaned on the reader knowing the story HOWEVER...anyone who knows this story would've been bored as hell by most of it! Either a lazy author or too much editing done--I was expecting more from a non-debut author. Really unsatisfying and disappointing retelling and pretty surprisingly since Spooner has been published before

Rating 3.5 stars (but giving it a 3 star rating seemed way too low).
Make sure to read the author's note at the end! It absolutely influenced my rating and it's really something we should all know. I didn't mind the fictional element of this book. I thought it was well written overall but the plot wrapped up too perfectly for my liking in a dystopian novel that is based in real problems such as human trafficking and ghettoized communities. The world building & historical information was incredible and so unique.

This book was so much better than book two! I loved getting more interaction with the Olympians and the expansion of the evil side.
This series is cute but it does make me laugh that the entire premise is "people couldn't keep it in their pants and cheated on their significant others" which is kinda joked about. I like Percy and loved how each book kept adding to the gods and myths--wouldve been fantastic when I was learning about that stuff in school.
I wasn't sucked in the same way and level that The Wrath and The Dawn duology did but I still really enjoyed this book. The cliffhanger ending was so well done and I just have to read the sequel (whenever that comes out). I absolutely loved all the relationship development, romance building and that whole "who is the actual bad guy?!" feeling. Renee Ahdieh was an amazing ability to paint a world in foreign places (I'm based in Canada) so vividly that I feel like I'm there and can follow the characters through the forest or on a magic carpet. I really enjoyed the Mulan retelling aspect but it didn't feel like the book leaned on my awareness of this popular story--I find a lot of retellings fall flat because authors either just rewrite the old fairytale/Disney adaptation or they bet on you knowing the romance or settings to the point where they don't feel the need to describe them to you.
Overall, a solid (but not my favourite) retelling but it's a wonderfully unique world with some really interesting characters and a SOLID romance that focuses on a strong woman and the people who support her.

I can't stop crying! It's just like listening and reading to Lorelai with her same sassiness, humour and lessons. Gilmore Girls was one of the few things that I will FOREVER link to my childhood and teen years. They weren't the most stable or easy years and this woman made me laugh and cry when I never thought possible...
But it's over like the show...right? 😉 (You'll understand this if you read the book).
An amazingly touching book

Damn it! Come on! Now I gotta read the next book. I need to know who in the hell is lying and who is the good/bad people! I found the clarification between the colours powers to be pretty vague but I really enjoyed it other than that. I'll have to grab the second book soon.

Firstly, The White Wolf is the greatest nickname ever.
Secondly, I was kinda bored/not feeling the first chunk of the book but once all the parties/sides get together and start interacting, it picked back up. I wasn't totally sold on Adelina being evil until the very end which has made me very curious about The Midnight Star. I don't know that I could really ever see her as evil after knowing everything she went through. abusive parents alone justify so many things in my mind so...but that may change depending on what the third book throws at me. I kind of like and also hate her sister and I'm not totally sure why...again, hopefully The Midnight Star will help me figure that out.
And can we all please just not try to revive the dead...it NEVER goes over well and something always backfires! Just don't do it!
