Oh boy...that ending just broke my heart 💔💔💔
This is kind of European settlement + Lord of the Flies + Frankenstein.
There are some slow parts but it was really interesting to see the big reveal of the monsters and what/who exactly they are. I loved the remote setting as well. I actually didn't mind the romance triangle since I saw that there was a reason for it. I'll read the sequel soon since it definitely gave me some Halloween vibes...and the ending...I need to know what happens now

This series is adorable! the writing and illustrations are consistently good and work so well together! I'm immediately picking up book 3
This whole series was so well written and illustrated. I loved the message/lessons, the character and world development were fantastic and it was really creative and empowering. Beyond impressed and I cannot believe this is a Middle Grade book!
Holy hell why is this book so low key!? So I know books with indigenous folklore or cultures can be very full for people or sit in that relatively unpopular "paranormal magical realism" genres but this book was FANTASTIC! All the characters were so enjoyable to read about and the mystery had me legit guessing the whole book! I am absolutely picking up the sequel when it comes out
I have NO idea how to review this book.
So this was a group read for the TBR & Beyond Book Club in September. I was aware of it before but I don't know that I would've read it otherwise and oh my God! I would have missed out!
This is a hella unique read in the YA field. Someone in this book refers to the cast as Death Row Breakfast Club which is so freaking accurate! The idea of being stuck in this setting makes me appreciate the current world in 2019 (think about that for a second). I could FEEL my anxiety spiking. Having to booby trap your home knowing you have pretty high odds of being kidnapped and murdered

The biggest of hell nos!
The cast were all cool and there were just so many freaking twists and turns especially since you don't really know how many people you have to be on the look out for! I can actually feel my anxiety going up just typing this review. The concept was just so unique for a book and it really delivered. I have been so desperately searching for a different book. I am reading the same fantasies over and over again. At first, I was so confused as to how there was a sequel to this...but then I read the summary for [b:#Murderfunding|40275151|#Murderfunding (MurderTrending, #2)|Gretchen McNeil|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1536324102l/40275151._SY75_.jpg|62557476] and I am freaking out excited! The background of the killers is continuously brought up to be this big mystery and then there's Mara being like "oh I know who they are" and then everything that goes down at the end...
For reals: read this book.

The publisher was so generous and gave me a finished copy because I enjoyed book 1
I'D REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF MORE PEOPLE WOULD READ THIS SO I COULD HAVE PEOPLE TO TALK TO!
I definitely want to read this again in 2020 but right after reading [b:The Call of the Rift: Flight|36393290|The Call of the Rift Flight|Jae Waller|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1526074265l/36393290._SY75_.jpg|58085229] because so much of it comes back into play either in plot or character conflicts or character growth. I think something I am really growing to appreciate is having main female characters who have a past before they meet their OTP. We're growing past the virginal untouched woman finds her husband in a night and neither have a past. It's unrealistic which is why something like [b:Graceling|3236307|Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1)|Kristin Cashore|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1331548394l/3236307._SY75_.jpg|3270810][b:Graceling|3236307|Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1)|Kristin Cashore|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1331548394l/3236307._SY75_.jpg|3270810] is so freaking iconic. I really loved that so much of this book mirrors colonization in North America from the flux in weapons to even alcohol's influence. definitely going to keep reading the series.

This was fun! I don't know that I super loved any of the characters but I liked the political conflict and the overall message. I also enjoyed the romance. Overall, nothing super special but an enjoyable read and pretty decent debut.

oh okay this was hella cute
So in a rare twist...I liked this book more than book 1! It's just more...we've established everything we need to in book 1 and now the characters and plot just completely took over. I felt like I ran through it because of the good pacing. Can't wait for the next book!
