2019: I read an advanced copy of this book, and I’m super interested to see if anything changed from then until publishing. I sure hope not because I very much enjoyed this book. It was a tough read and I spent a lot of time yelling at the characters, but it had a hopeful enough conclusion that it was worth pushing through.
2019: Such a sweet book. I loved following both of the boys on their journey and honestly enjoyed the ups and downs of their summer high school romance. Were there too many Harry Potter & Hamilton references? I mean, never, but yes there were. Very sweet, nicely placed in the time period it exists in, and a nice homage to New York from someone who obviously has never lived in NYC.
2019: Of all the unsatisfactory endings this book could have had, that was the worst. I was cheering for Tess the whole time, and for her to blow it like that at the end was so disappointing. This is a 4 star book with a 0 star ending.
2019: A truly beautiful story that follows four generations of a Korean-Japanese family, but geez did it need to be so sad? That’s probably why I loved it so much, but this book made me gasp out loud and get emotional while waiting in line at the pharmacy. Too good to put down, too sad to read in public - just my type.
2019: This is by far the best advice column I’ve ever read, but I also haven’t read many (any). It read more like short stories and so it moved quickly, but I loved the overall vibes from Strayed. I loved WILD and I loved this book and I can’t wait to read more of her.
2019: A fun, wild romp through the United Kingdom (and beyond!) that plays with romance tropes, while rolling its eyes at the choose your adventure genre. It was not well written enough for me to recommend this to anyone else, but it was a fun afternoon of following along the ridiculous storylines. I have not read a book in the second person in a long while, so that was also a fun change in my reading habits.
2019: Yes, this book is itself an example of minimalism, but geez, it's also an example of BORING. I get that you didn't want to include a lot of unnecessary information in the book, but how about including at least SOME information? I read this book while I was browsing around a bookstore - it took me less than a half hour to get everything there was to get out of it. Maybe that's the point of minimalism - don't spend as much time on a project, so you have more time to spend on other projects?
2019: What a great, feel good story. I knew how it was going to end and I loved every minute of it. Great sports story, great small town coming together moments, and the added benefit of being about people and towns that I know and love. SOCCER IS LIFE.
2019: I really wanted to like this book, but Selin was the freaking worst narrator. Maybe that's what made the book great? That it made me so frustrated with her? But I just could not get on her team. Maybe I've just completely forgotten what it was like to be 19? Or maybe I don't want to be reminded.
