The subject was not as interesting as I thought, but that's just my opinion. I felt the last chapter about how we fear death and prefer to ignore old age and the decline that comes with it was the most interesting part of the book. The book has certainly changed my view of death so it was a good read.
I liked this take on Beauty and the Beast, but the curse with the roses and the sacrifices was a little too strange for me.
I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for a review.
Although I'm not a fan of wrestling or any related sport, I did really enjoy this. A lot of the book covers Carr fighting as a zeroboxer, and Lee does a very good job describing the action in the zero gravity cube. She also built a very good lead character and good supporting characters in Carr's number one fan and his coach.
The world building is done well. Given all the advances that living in space would require, this must take place quite a way in the future. However, so much of it was familiar that it didn't feel so farfetched. It was a good look at the promotion that goes into the careers of modern athletes, elevating them to celebrity status, and also shows how much training and hard work go on behind the scenes.
There are a lot of big social issues here, but Lee only taps the surface. The book mostly covered the life of Carr and didn't delve much into the blatant discrimination common throughout the story. In my opinion, that would have improved the book and raised it up. As it is, it's a good read if a little fluffy.

really gritty, full of characters who are hard to keep straight. I wasn't sure what was happening or how it all tied together until the end
This is a good suspenseful mystery with alternating narrators who are unreliable. I'd really give it 3.5 stars. It didn't suck me in the way I thought it would. I had no trouble putting it down to do something else. It did keep me guessing until almost the end. I had several theories of what happened, but they constantly changed. I recommend it though because a lot of other readers think it lives up to the hype and it's a fairly quick read.
Another great book about being bullied and overcoming it. This should be required reading for all preteens.
