This was a good short story collection. Each story featuring a down on their luck or outcast character. Some were likeable and some weren't that much. Some stories will make you laugh or shake your head. Some will make you cry or make you wish they choose a different path. Each story felt so raw and truthful.
This book was very detailed in the gruesome murders that took place to Dixie's family. It can be hard to read if you have a weak stomach. (I guess, fortunetly for me, I thought Dixie was crazy for moving back into that house when she saw an opportunity to. I slowly thought she was going crazy...I thought the weirdnesses going on in her house was her blacking out and not knowing the crazy and cruel things she was doing. When the truth comes out, I was shocked. Shocked at what prompted the whole thing to begin with!
Overall, I thought this was a strong and chilling debut.

I didn't really expect to like this as much as I did going in and even after reading for a bit, but I ended up LOVING it!
The White House Trio- they are so fun together! Add in Henry and they can be down right hilarious. Alex and Henry's relationship bugged me at the beginning because they seemed to not tolerate each other well and I just thought-why would you want to get together?! But they worked and blended together well... They can both be snarky but also totally sweet.
I kept wishing this was our reality lol...I really loved "President Mom"! She's just a smart and sassy Texas girl who does a great job as first female president.

This book will make you lose your mind!
This is a great sci-fi book, but this story has heart. I loved Helena's reason to build the chair, but it's a sad that she couldn't foresee the consequences of it at first. Barry just wants one more moment with his daughter and what will he sacrifice in order to get that? Helena and Barry come to find that altering the past has terrifying consequences for the future. I admire though that they keep trying to make it right.... This time for the whole world, not just themselves.
I would have been driven crazy myself if I kept remembering these false memories. This book makes you go "what is going on?" but it ultimately makes you think about humanity and what lengths you'd go to to save ones you love?

Wow, though this had the MOST unlikeable characters......I was intruigued by it and compelled to finish it in less than a day! Everyone (the exception- Lucy) who the main character, Sara, interacts with at Stanhope is manipulative, highly unlikeable, and money grubbing narcissists! They do terrible things, no matter who they hurt, all in the pursuit of that lucrative bonus and highest pay. I loved the back and forth from the elevator to past scenes as we get to know Sara. Definitely one you might need to pick up soon!
This was not my favorite. Extremely slow paced. Lots of talk about whorehouses. Silas- the very inept taxidermist who is once introduced to Iris and starts stalking her... Thinking she will love him after that brief encounter. He really annoyed me.
Started out Victorian-era feeling but quickly turned into feeling like a modern thriller at the end.
I also felt that a book called The Doll Factory should have been more focused around that and it fell way short of that mark for me.

This is a crazy science concept that may or may not be too far off. But is it ethical?
Claire wanted so desperately to have another (this time healthy) child after her son's death that she really didn't think about the consequences or ethics of what she asked Dr. Rob to do. She barely knew him or Jillian, his postdoc! Myself, I didn't agree with this methid to get a healthy child. I would have just tried again the natural way and see what happened. I did admire Rob though (except for the skipping the trial and having an arrest water)
I figured a few things out along the way, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the book. I'm surprised it took so long for Jillian to find them.... All because of Abby and her school project. A good thriller and very satisfying ending I thought!

What a beautiful story full of sisterly love and magic! I really, really loved Runa. She was so filled with her love for her twin, Alia, that she sacrifices a lot to try and get her back. She was strong and resilient, especially when a lot of people would have given up. I loved getting to know Evie more in her role as the Sea Witch. Sofia had me turning my head in surprise at almost every turn! I almost never knew what to think of her and where her loyalties were. I liked her a lot, though, at the end. The romance between Runa and Will was sweet. This story also shows what can happen when someone has too much power or magic in this case. A gorgeous sequel!
I kept hearing how creepy this book was and I didn't get that at all, but I also don't get scared. I still enjoyed the story as more of a police procedural though. Jake may have seemed like a weird little boy that talked to himself/imaginary friend but it was actually very sweet-the rain that he was that way. Tom is a good dad just trying to get through raising a son on his own. Pete is a very good cop that takes his job seriously and can't forget the one case he still needs to solve. It turned out as a surprise to me as to who he actually was.
Wow! Every character in this is psychotic but I still felt that I couldn't pull my eyes away! I don't know what to say any more than that because I want people to experience it for themselves. All I do want to say is that, I think, one character for sure knew what they were doing and how this play would play out. Really dark, really good psychological thriller.
