What a great story! My favorite line was "Up until then I'd thought that white people and colored people getting along was the big aim, but after that I decided everybody being colorless together was a better plan."

I love that Lily didn't see color, only people. I'm happy she found a safe place among the beekeeper sisters and that her father really didn't try to drag her back home with him. She certainly would have had a worse life if she was forced back with her father.

I liked this book, but was very bugged about one aspect......in the present day parts, the author would throw in some parts about the past without any kind of break in between them and then go right back with no obvious breaks to the present.
I did think it was interesting that this murder that happened in 1899 is still debated today (much like the Lizzie Borden murders)

I enjoyed this book. Getting to know the cultures of Korea and Hawaii a little bit more. The story is a beautifully written one with heartache and joy in the lives that are told throughout the story.

I absolutely adored this book! Full of mystery which I love. I got to the last 30 or so pages one night when the mystery starts unfolding little by little and wanted to finish it, but didn't want to miss anything or start skimming so I waited until the next day. I'm so glad I did, there is a lot of detail those last pages! Great read!
