There were a lot (A LOT) of characters - but as advertised they did mostly intersect and tie up nicely in the end
A book about “rooting for everyone and loving a place” - I loved it!
I really liked the structure with the Maple Street chorus and there were a number of spots I laughed out loud

A book about a person still “coloring themself in” (and with a happy ending)
The surprise at the end reminded me of Daisy Jones’ structure and why didn’t Monique say to herself “wait - he died in that year in a car crash… so did my dad!”
Parts of this were really hard to listen to, and it is another book that can be categorized as “things that happened in my lifetime that I was oblivious to”
I like Linda Holmes’ writing - and liked the way the book wrapped up - it seemed honest and not cookie cutter
Also a nice cleanser after some heavier books

Review in 4 words: 1800s womanhood is lousy
This book was more than the combination of its ingredients (eggs & sugar, flour & butter) - the “whole damn cake”!
“Sometimes when you put two very different whole people together a kind of magic occurs”
I really liked the intertwining stories of these commuters and laughed (and sniffled) out loud more than once

This was on my list I think for a long time, I pulled it up because I saw Oh William! was on the list of the Booker prize this year. I did not enjoy/understand the story telling here - admittedly I listened to the audiobook version, so maybe reading it on paper would have made it clearer - but it felt very stream of consciousness. I kept waiting for a big reveal (why was she in the hospital - what had happened when she was a kid) - I didn't feel I got any kind of payoff that way.
The fact that she "loved" so many people (repetitively) in the narrative I also was unsure of --- was that just setting up her character? Was there supposed to be more to it? Maybe I needed the benefit of reading this with a group to talk through my questions/provide clarity.

The story didn’t go exactly in the direction I expected, but an enjoyable weekend listen
