Definite meh. The Maui part of the story was kind of entertaining but how returning to MN unfurled was kind of bleh. Kind of seemed like piling on… and why did the Hamilton’s have to show up again at the end?
So many characters (I had a hard time keeping them straight)… I think it was an allegory for the dangers of prejudice (or a lesson about the importance of kindness when others need it) but overall I felt like it might have been better as a short story
What would make “The Crown” better? Solving mysteries! I loved imagining Queen Elizabeth sleuthing :)
Listened to this as an audiobook and it took me a little to keep the names straight - but I really enjoyed it and will definitely look for additional books in this series.

Kevin was the woooooorrrrst. I enjoyed it more once Millie and Aideen were on their adventure
I thought Cecilia and August are the only sympathetic characters… so I guess that proves the title’s point :)
Read on vacation - not too heavy, I didn’t see the twist at the end coming at all
Listened to the audio book version on a car trip. Kept the whole family entertained
Another engaging book by Backman! I didn’t think they were the worst hostages in the world. :)
Beachy read with meatier topics (grief, loss, etc). I liked it and would read more from the author
I understand that there is some aspect of suspending your reality with fiction, but LA seems huge… would people really run into each other so much?
It was a fine story for an escapist love story
