Dear Sugar columns published on The Rumpus.net or e-mailed without knowing she is a famous writer, letters written by strangers about love, family, grief, and loss, money, family troubles - her advice for them.
In the beginning, I was totally hooked on the book and its idea. Since I listened to the audio version of Cheryl (Sugar) herself read the letters and her pieces of advice. There were a lot of stories I could not relate or I got lost in listening that I do not remember what they were about but there were some that I really was powerful and even I could relate to. The first story about love and about her mother was my favorite out of all. Also, the story about the existence of god, the letter about the person being scared to lose good things in life to have children, and the story about the woman disgusted by infidelity are a few of the most memorable stories. However, for some of these stories I did not like the answer or the advice she gave. Some advice completely baffled me and infuriated me. In my head, I was screaming "NO! that is not what you should be saying" After all, Cheryl did admit she does not have the academic or professional take in to advise anyone. Also, she does not give answers to 100% solve any of the problems. She gives them 'ideas' to make the situation better. And having noted better is never the best but never the just good or bad.
One other thing you will prefer the audiobook to the physical book would be the tone she reads. Her tone reminded me of "Chanel Miller's" memoir audiobook version. The tone of her reading the letters changes when she is actually giving answers. Angry letters and sad letters. The answers in a tone of calm but firm manner. If not for the fact the format just a bit boring towards the middle, I would have given this a 5-star rating.

Had I read this when I was younger, I believe I would have enjoyed this book more. The story is too YA for me. However, I loved the character, Silas. One character I did not like was Scarlette. After having gone through so much she still abandoned Bod. It was a letdown. That part did not feel well with the plot for me. Also in the beginning the plot was really draggy and all over the place. The last few chapters were much more entertaining and page-turning.

Efren Divided on audiobook was a wonderful story.
Efren still a young schools boy is divided between his choices of being a normal boy and soper-brother and a soper-son in with the hope of getting his mom who got deported back to Mexico.
Regardless this is a middle-grade children fiction, the ending is kept as realistic as it is.
The Mexican food mentioned in the story is just mouth-watering enough.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. While reading it I thought if I would like to travel back in time to see people I would never see again.
if you cannot change the present what is the point of going back in time or going ahead in time. The stories really speak to that question and shows why it is worth it. It is not always to change anything it is to change our own perspective to live without regrets. To have courage to go on and move on
It was a 5 star novel for me.

I listened to the audiobook. Quiet fast paced but since this is a non-fiction there were a lot of facts and theroies of which I had to take notes of. However, at times I felt like the same thing was repeated over and over which could have been said simply and shortly.
The Invention of Murder: How the Victorians Revelled in Death and Detection and Created Modern Crime
DID NOT FINISH: 11%
I will come back to this book later. This is definitely an interesting book but it's super slow paced and a lot of information to take in. However, I would want to read this someday again. For now this is going in my DNF.

What a wonderful story. I really enjoyed the Japanese setting of cherry blossoms and Japanese cooking: not just the dorayaki but the information about other dishes like manju, kishimen noodles, sake, kombu, soba noodles..etc loved the characters and the realistic portrayal and the ending for not being all a "perfect ending". The whole book made me hungry and emotional.

It is a good fit for middle-grade reading. The story and the ending seem to be manipulated by the author to keep the mystery element. The ending did almost come out as a plot twist but for me personally having watched a lot of mysterious and horror movies the ending was not that surprising.
However, the setting is amazing. I always appreciate the dark autumn/wintery atmostphere(Scottish Highlands)

I listened to the audiobook version and I took my time to digest the story as it was not easy to keep up with the storyline and the words used. There seems to be a great deal of hype around this book.
I am not going to lie, the hype around this novel on the bookternet during the first quarter of 2021 was the reason I wanted to give it a try. Indigenous Australian culture is not a topic I would read every day. Just like the other readers on the bookternet recommended, I learned a great deal about Indigenous culture and the importance of the culture in general. The audiobook version of “The Yield”, was preferred by many readers of this book. I could see why.

Hyde and Jekyll is not an in famous name among the people who are familiar with the DID or MPD. The first time I came across these two characters were through a K-drama with the central theme of the main character suffering from DID. After reading the story I am left with more questions like <Spoiler>who will be criminally responsible for one personality's crimes? How would they have punished Hyde if he was alive? </Spoiler>
