this book is so ahead of its time i can’t even believe it. Some of the most complicated and experimental prose and writing i have ever seen and so incredibly beautiful. The story is extremely tragic and its a historical setting but i just really was not expecting the horror aspect nor the poetry of it. It honestly was so scary for so many reasons. Must-read!

sad french twinks forced to execute and torture eachother in the 18th century :(
as always, shin'ichi sakamoto's art is unparalleled and historically pastiched.
The only thing I don't love about this series so far is that i can't really pin down a plot, but because it's based on true events i feel like it's probably more of a biographical story, we are still getting backstory of Charles Sanson yk . I think I should probably read a book about Charles Sanson first, like how if you've read Dracula then his #DRCL is 100% more enjoyable. I appreciate how gay all of his manga is lolll

This shit is booooomb if you are a dracula nerd and lover of the original story but always wished the heavily implied sapphic relationship of Lucy + Mina was more opaque this is for you

this book made me physically sick to my stomach, it was so heartbreaking. It's so hard too when something like this is so relatable because you're reading it like screaming at the narrator, the same way you would scream at your younger self, you know? Really amazing writing and very riveting for a memoir, I really could not put it down.
I took 1 star off for personal reasons that aren't 100% in fair judgement of the book but there were a couple things that irritated me that are probably not worth writing down. I definitely recommend this book, especially if you are someone who potentially has found yourself in a relationship that makes you feel unsafe, you are not alone and leaving IS AN OPTION!!

I love this book but I don't really feel like I learned anything new. It was definitely a magical collection of cynicism and doomerism told in really beautiful prose. The writing itself was fantastic but I really liked the parts about how horror actually functions in the brain the most and though that was a huge theme i feel like I wanted more about that instead of about how no one should have kids because we are just puppets slave to biodeterminism (we all know that already yk).

insanely beautiful poems, especially when read by the author herself. I loved the 'Are You There God?' section the most.
