Carmen Maria Machado is a literary genius. Her prose is so purposeful and powerful. In the Dream House is a beautiful and devastating account of queer domestic violence, yet is not sensationalised nor trivialised.

The concept of the book is interesting and I feel like I would have enjoyed it if the characters were more likeable. I couldn’t get invested in them because they felt so one dimensional and whiny.

A beautiful story of love, loss, and food. Zauner’s prose is so evocative and rich it feels like you’re seeing and tasting and smelling everything she puts on the page. The fact that someone can be such a talented musician and then write such a brilliant memoir is infuriatingly impressive.
