I usually like Nellie Wilson’s books a lot, but this one was a let-down. The two main romantic leads are compelling, and the third main character is essentially Appalachia. I admire the author’s determination to do justice to the region and its complications, but a large part of this book felt very slow and didactic.

A wonderful book. Judith Ivory is a truly masterful writer. Not quite 5 stars for me just because there were some aspects of the ending I didn’t love, but a favorite nonetheless.
