This book was hard to get into, but the audio narration was fantastic and eventually I couldn’t stop listening. The trauma faced by Zamperini and his cohort is so hard to hear, but also so inspiring.

I loved almost all of this book. The story telling is excellent.  The premise of a heroine who unexpectedly discovers a penchant for magic is tried and true, but told in a new way. And I love that there isn’t too much world building to keep track of.

I would have given this book 4 stars, but the open door scene 75% through the book was abrupt and unnecessary.

This book can be read in one sitting, but I took it slow. Even though it’s short, it really draws the reader in to the heartbreaking reality.

Love the art and daily reflections.

The split timeline and mystery narrator will make this book frustrating to some readers. But it definitely satisfies a preference for twists and turns in a thriller
