Ugh. The characters in this book are just so unlikeable and toxic to each other. It took me too long to finally get through this book because I just couldn’t root for either of the main characters. The ending of the story was slightly redeeming, which was the only reason I gave it more than 1 star. But I’m a little irritated I even spent any time reading this book. 

This book was so fun! It was really easy to follow despite having well developed, complex characters and plot. The dialogue is a bit clunky in places, and a few scenes that took me out of the book, but overall a well-developed, intriguing story that was difficult to put down. The author’s age at publication makes it that much more impressive. Looking forward to reading more of his backlist!

Much slower than the first two books in the trilogy. The slow reveal of the split timeline was confusing and made me impatient. But I still really loved the ending to the story. Worth the read, but I feel like it just was developed in a hurry. 

I’m not a fan of the spicy scenes and I felt like they went on WAY too long, and didn’t do anything to move the story along. Other than that I enjoyed this book while reading it. It was a fun way to pass the time during long drives, but I’m not thinking about it after I’ve finished. 

The action in this book was much more intense than the first book. There wasn’t a lot of mystery as in the first in the series, but it moved quickly and I raced through all 500 pages. Excellent. 

This book was so well researched and respectful to the history and mythology of Western Asia. I read every page from the edge of my seat, nothing too predictable, but also easy to follow. One of the best adventure/fantasy novels I’ve ever read

The split timeline was too hard to follow. I don’t usually mind it, but it jumps around without and perceptible reason. Also, there are too many characters, and following them through the different timelines is very confusing and without purpose. The premise is interesting and I really wanted to like this book, but it just feels like there’s too much going on and what is there is not sufficiently developed. That is kind of the point, but also makes for a frustrating novel. 

This book was so unexpected. So dark, but every twist and turn was intriguing. Creepy and full of imagination.
