A disappointing read that I should have researched more before buying. The lead character is a self-admitted abusive rapist and I felt no sympathy for him and his continuous whining. He was lazily constructed with a prior traumatic history to explain his behavior, albeit poorly. I only continued reading because the book was short and I wanted to witness him receiving his just desserts, but the revenge he undergoes was underwhelming and not rewarding enough to justify waiting for. While the writing itself was fine this is definitely one to skip.

Reviewing this several months after I first read it, so I don't remember details. Urban Fiction is extremely popular with readers at my library and I wanted to see what the hype was about, I definitely understand it now. Around the Way Girls 6 includes three different stories by three different authors about sharp young women who get involved in the drug trade, with varying levels of willingness. Though I liked the leading characters in all three stories, I felt like the first one suffered from an obvious lack of editing. It was too descriptive and not descriptive enough in all the wrong places. Each of these stories felt intensely sensationalized, yet I see why the format works because I was glued to the pages and deeply invested in the survival of these girls.
