reneethebookbird's Reviews (946)

Here's the thing about this series: It reads like one giant book. It starts off good. The first two books are excellent and creative. The books in the middle are a bit muddy and convoluted and tend to drag. Book five made me go, "WHAT THE EFFFF" with its ending. And the final book just felt rushed at the end.
At first the series reminded me of Harry Potter, but in reflection, the writing is just not as tight as Rowling's. It seems Scott didn't know where to go with some story lines and some were left unresolved.

In the end, I am glad I read the series. It was certainly entertaining. I'd recommend it, but just as fluff. The Graceling series is similar but much better.
