The best part of this was Wolverine and Nick Fury sassing each other.
The rest of it was okay.

If you've ever talked to me about comics like, at all, you probably know that my all time favorite thing is Wolverine being an Adopted Dad to wayward teenage girls, so.... I'm into this, obviously.
I still kind of wish Jubilee weren't a vampire but that seems to be sticking around, so, WHATEVER.

I've always been a fan of this series but the shift in focus to a GLAM 70S DEATH CULT has really captured my interest.
I still love Rory as a character; she's hilarious. Her relationship with Stephen is a little "meh" for me but who cares? GLAM! 70S! DEATH! CULT!

OK I plan to write more of a review later but basically I could not put this down and then when I finished it I had ghost nightmares! And I'm not even normally scared of ghosts! ahhhhh

2/15 I re-read this in preparation for [b:The Shadow Cabinet|17412895|The Shadow Cabinet (Shades of London, #3)|Maureen Johnson|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1413890452s/17412895.jpg|24258340]. Still fun!

YES: I read this because after David Carr died I read a hundred tweets and articles about him and did not know who he was, but it seemed like I should rectify that, if belatedly.
I couldn't put this book down. It's vicious in its honesty and self-awareness. I haven't read very many addiction memoirs but it's clear that Carr was familiar with the genre and makes frequent references to common tropes. I'd imagine Carr's writing is a cut above many similar works--indeed, he essentially says that's why he decided to write one.
It reminded me also of [b:Infinite Jest|6759|Infinite Jest|David Foster Wallace|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1421851672s/6759.jpg|3271542] and how the treatment center plot of that is pseudo-biographical... shades of that here, too, of someone who believes themselves too smart to be an addict.
I noticed other reviews mentioning that "The Night of the Gun" conceit isn't the whole of the book... it's a relatively minor part of it. But, like, of course, the story doesn't begin and end there.
I think it's a great read for anyone, either to provide a non-addict with a look in at what addiction can be like, or, I would imagine, for an addict to connect with.

This is the last of Courtney Summers's currently-available books for me to read! So you'd think I'd be used to how gorgeous and deadly her prose is
BUT I'M NOT
:'(
Courtney Summers writes such great contemporary YA! Girls with realistic FEELINGS and REACTIONS and RELATIONSHIPS.
This one is kind of a mystery, also!

Hmm. I loved the concept here, and the writing is gorgeous. The... ending... though? I just... I dunno, man. I guess I wished for more about Jam and maybe less explicit discussion of the book's moral? (which is "Words matter" FYI.) It's a fine moral.
Still I think it is a fine read, especially for teens who want to read about grieving characters, or Sylvia Plath, or how Words Matter.

Batgirl, Vol. 3: Death of the Family
Admira Wijaya, Vicente Cifuentes, Julius M. Gopez, Gail Simone, Scott Snyder, Ray Fawkes, Jonathan Glapion, Mark Irwin, Juan Albarran, Marc Deering, Ed Benes, Rob Hunter, Greg Capullo, Daniel Sampere
Oh man. I like Gail Simone, and I like Batgirl, but I grabbed a stack of new Batgirl GNs from the library and was like, oh yeah, this is why I mainly read Marvel, because this is UPSETTING.
I mean it's well done, if you like upsetting things? Which I... don't really. But the art is good and I liked Batgirl Annual with Catwoman & Strix... kind of makes me want to pick up Birds of Prey to follow Strix, who I liked.

Batgirl, Vol. 4: Wanted
Gail Simone, Marguerite Bennett, Jonathan Glapion, Fernando Pasarín, Derlis Santacruz, Carlos Rodríguez, Daniel Sampere
Again: this is good but so grim and upsettinggggg. Also the Ventriloquist poisons a homeless person's cat which is SO UNNECESSARY >:( (also a bunch of humans.)
I wish there was more about Babs and Alysia and less about like, crime? But... uh... that's just personal preference.

Batgirl, Vol. 5: Deadline
Javier Garrón, Gail Simone, Marguerite Bennett, Jonathan Glapion, Fernando Pasarín, Robert Gill, Matt Ryan
I liked this more than the previous volumes! There was a weird vampire story that was, dare I say, fun! (Although a child still dies in it because UGH DC). Plus, Batgirl gets to team up with Black Canary and Huntresss! And Poison Ivy! And Strix! And Alysia gets an eco-terrorism storyline! AND THE NEW BABY BATGIRLS! YAY
but mostly it was just a reminder of why I don't read a lot of DC stuff... again, just personal preference, but if you're looking for real grim angsty comics, this is well done.
