You know how when Matt Fraction started writing Hawkeye everyone was like, "Oh man I don't care if you like Hawkeye or not, you should definitely check this out??" This is like the opposite of that, I would only recommend it if you really like Gambit. Which I do, so, OK. It wasn't really as fun as the first volume, though. It got a little bogged down with some ~ethical quandaries~ that weren't even really a thing?
However, the Gambit/Hawkeye oneshot at the end is like 5 stars alone just for Gambit calling Hawkeye "Katniss."

I rated this book 5 stars because Ke$ha is a 5-star human being.
If you like Ke$ha you should definitely read this. If you do not like Ke$ha you should try to like Ke$ha.
I wrote a blog post about this book that's basically just several amazing quotes from it. http://nafcteens.wordpress.com/2013/03/03/rave-my-crazy-beautiful-life/
“The Galapagos seemed like a place trapped in prehistoric time, and y’all know I love that s***.”

I was way into this, despite my noted dystopia fatigue. The short chapters and POV of a dyslexic character are appealing to reluctant readers, including adults who are reluctant to read another dystopia, I guess. It kept me turning the pages for sure.
I've read some reviews complaining about how vague the worldbuilding was, but I actually really liked that. But I also can't stand it when fantasy books come with maps of fake places, so, that's me.

I mean, this was fun, but it turns out I care more about the FF B-team and crazy time traveling Johnny Storm than I care about the main FF? Needs more She-Hulk (as most books do).
All lady X-Men team! Yeah!! I wish the first volume of this hadn't been tied in with such a confusing villain--seems like this could have been a great entry point for some new readers.
Also why is Jubilee still a vampire? Can't someone at Marvel figure out a way to make her regular Jubilee again? Please?? Whatever though I like her as a mom and I like Wolverine as a grandpa-figure and I like the flashbacks to teen Jubilee. And I like Storm's hair. And I want to read more of this. Yeah!!

I was debating between 4 and 5 stars and then I remembered Unicorn Xavier with Cupcake Guns and I knew in my heart that this is a 5-star book.
Sometime I will show you all the rating rubric of my heart, but until then, that's pretty much all I have to say about this.

UM, PERFECT. Also seriously, why hasn't anyone written a novel about fandom before? Or have they and I just missed it?
Seriously SO ON POINT in every way. Like, the highs and lows of fandom, and how cool fandom is, but also how sometimes maybe you need to turn off the computer and go do a thing, and how people have different kinds of intelligences and that's okay.
And I loved the world of Simon Snow--a series that basically sounds like Harry Potter mixed with Narnia et al. The fragments of it and the fragments of Cath and Wren's fanfiction were so perfect.
In conclusion: SQUEEE
I'm so mad this doesn't come out until fall because I want ALL MY FANGIRL FRIENDS TO READ IT.

And a plot line about college drinking that didn't feel like an afterschool special. And I loved the world of Simon Snow--a series that basically sounds like Harry Potter mixed with Narnia et al. The fragments of it and the fragments of Cath and Wren's fanfiction were so perfect.

OK. Count me among those who are a bit burned out on vampires. But, I trust Holly Black, so I was excited to read this. I love her vampire worldbuilding and the obsession with vampires on reality television & blogs etc.
I liked the way the narrative occasionally interspersed with news stores/blog entries--personally, I would have been happy with even a few more blog entries.
The story is DARK. I mean, Holly Black does dark, so not too big of a surprise, but... just FYI. Dark. Dying. Torturing. Etc.
I assume there will be a sequel? I'll definitely read it, since this ending is so cliffhanging! And I especially want to see what happens with
Oh, and I thought it was cool that there was a transgender teen character and a bit of meta about how trans*people might fit into the world of vampires. Holla.

Tana and Gavriel? Like on one hand... I think I'll be disappointed if they get together, because Tana seems too smart for that... but on the other hand, the heart wants what it wants, and maybe it wants a glamorous, mentally unstable vampire. At least she's going into it eyes wide open.Oh, and I thought it was cool that there was a transgender teen character and a bit of meta about how trans*people might fit into the world of vampires. OK full disclosure, I had to read a recent Batman volume for class and I picked this one without realizing that I apparently should have read a couple other ones before reading this one. So I found it very confusing. But also, Batman is on some kind of meditation-induced acid trip the whole time (OR IS HE) so I think it would have been pretty confusing either way.
Still though, I enjoyed it. Pretty fun and intense and Robin and Nightwing actually had stuff to do (since Batman was tripping).

Yeah!! So glad to be past confusing crossover stuff and back to just normal levels of Marvel confusion. And sass! Prob my favorite part was Kitty telling Bobby he could get to 2nd base if they got through their mission, and he told her it didn't count if she was phased. Love itttt. Just overall a lot of fun. And I loved seeing Idie come into her own. And I loved the Hellfire Academy's course offerings. This is less of a review and more of a list of things that I loved. I feel fine about it.
