oh my godddd I love ittttt, so fun! The art especially popped on this one, and I love Raven so much.

Also just gonna mention that Raven is a queer lady pirate...if that is of interest to any of you.

STILL SO FUN! I loved seeing Devin here as an example of how the patriarchy hurts everybodyyy by forcing people into their narrow divides--toxic masculinity hurts boys who just wanna sew.

The goblin adventure was adorbs and hilarious, and Angoisse's creepy-toxic vampire boyfriend was well done (seems to be kind of a direct response to Twilight, with the watching her sleep etc etc etc).

Just still a really great fun series!

This is fun! Probably nonessential, but cute. I loved seeing poor Bedelia's backstory (and being glad she's off with Adrienne now!)

I'm glad this book exists--I think it's a very approachable introduction to trans* concepts. Although this is in depth interviews with 6 different teens, which obviously can't be totally inclusive of everyone's experiences, I think it has a lot more diversity than the sort of typical media narrative of transition (MTF, very glamorous and traditionally femme-looking) and just shows that there are so many more possibilities. (Of course it could be MORE diverse--but, again, it's a good start.)

The portraits are compelling. There are also pretty good resources in the backmatter, although--at this point this book is 2 years old so honestly some of it's already dated. Hopefully there will be a new edition or another book along these lines?!

This kinda reminded me of Bill Bryson's earlier travel books, but not quite as funny? But it's a good mix of historical information and entertaining travel anecdotes. There's like maybe more than I really wanted to know about wagon design?? But exactly as much as I wanted to know about mules, such as that Washington and Lafayette introduced them to America.

Also, this is definitely related to the age difference between Rinker Buck and myself, but I was disappointed that there was NO MENTION AT ALL of the Oregon Trail computer game!! C'MON

I HAVE NOTHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT THIS

oh boy, I don't know. I did find a lot of this cringe-y, particularly when Jodi was writing from the POV of Ruth, the black nurse, and trying to expand on how microaggressions feel? And, like in the other Jodi P book I've read, just a LOT of coincidences/twists/etc. But uhh... she's trying? This might teach some middle-aged white people about microaggressions? And in the back material she recommends reading [b:The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness|6792458|The New Jim Crow Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness|Michelle Alexander|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1328751532s/6792458.jpg|6996712], which is rad. I wouldn't recommend seeking this out unless you are a Jodi Picoult fan already, or, like me, you are TOO CURIOUS.

I finally picked up book #4 in this series after a long delay. IDK why--I liked the first 3 and I'd read a few other Rick Riordan books... I guess I felt like there wasn't much professional gain to be had in reading them since I already knew enough to promote the series, and they don't quite end on enough of a cliffhanger for me to want to immediately pick up the next one? But I got this on audiobook for a trip and enjoyed it.

The audiobook is kind of a mixed bag--it's a good story for a trip because it moves along and keeps me interested on long drives. But the narrator makes some weird choices? And seems to hand out accents to characters kind of randomly? And I feel like the accent he gives Ethan Nakamura is kinda racist?? And he makes Tyson sound like a South Park character with a developmental disability which is kinda...not great?? uhhh idk

Woot, finished the series! A very satisfying and mature ending. Good job Percy. And Rick Riordan I GUESS

Still the same weirdnesses of the same audiobook narrator--not really enough for me to say "don't listen to these on audio" but I certainly wouldn't say "oh these are GREAT audiobooks")

I first heard about this book/story on a This American Life episode. Unlike [b:The Setup: A True Story of Dirty Cops, Soccer Moms, and Reality TV|21413917|The Setup A True Story of Dirty Cops, Soccer Moms, and Reality TV|Pete Crooks|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1403740109s/21413917.jpg|40714677]-where I felt like honestly the episode was exactly as much info as I wanted on the story and the book was overkill--I found this whole story fascinating, sad, and compelling.
