Is het erg als ik zeg dat ik dit boek niet snap? En hoe weet iedereen zo zeker dat

? Dat is op geen enkel punt bewezen. Natuurlijk is ook nooit bewezen dat het wel zo is, maar het is vooral gewoon een verhaal over een zielig mannetje dat ongelukkig is met zijn leven, en dat daarom dus maar op het spel zet voor een willekeurige vreemdeling. Ik kan zijn hele manier van denken nket volgen. Ik had dit boek waarschijnlijk niet eens uitgelezen als ik niet van alle kanten had gehoord dat het later beter werd. Dat heb ik, net als Osewoudt, tot op de laatste zin geloofd.

Really good story that I read in three days. This makes it difficult to write a proper review because I haven´t got the chance to properly think about what I´ve read yet.

So far I´ve got only one observation: is there any specific reason why Draconas chose to take Edward with him in his queste? Besides it being necessary for the plot, that is. He didn't seem to add anything during the whole journey, besides maybe a reason for the author to write a series instead of a novel. Don't get me wrong, I'm not objecting; I like the author and the series so far, but it would've been nice if she had pulled Edward in some other way into the whole mess.

Finished reading this book in two days time. So far I really enjoy the series and it still manages to surprise me. I especially liked some of the plot-twists at the end of this book,can't wait to read the last book to find out what's going on. The coming-of-age part and the highly predictable scenes when Ven goes to the market and the issues that follow could have been left out for me, but a good book nontheless.

I also noticed that this is one of the very few books in a series that is actually perfectly readable without having read the other parts in the series first. There are a few links to what happened in the first book, but nothing more than is necessary to understand the characters' behaviour and just enough to make you curious about what happened before, but not enough to feel like you're not enjoying this book to the fullest because you haven't read the previous book.

Not what I expected after The Martian, but still a very great short story with a very interesting thought behind it.
