Tara Sim is one of my favourite authors of all time, and this was great. Not my favourite from her, but I really enjoyed it!

Let me just say, this is my first Jonny Garza Villa book, and I am 1000% a stan.

The grief that Rafael feels for his abuelo is so real and hits you in the gut. If you’ve ever lost a grandparent who you were super close to, this book will transport you back to that time in your life. But this book explores the after part of losing them. It takes place 8 months after, and explores what do you do now? How do you live without them? And it does so beautifully.

To be honest, all I read for the description was “A queer Caribbean anti-colonial Count of Monte Cristo set in space…” and that’s all I needed to get it. I didn’t even finish the description before reading this book, and it was so good!! I really enjoyed it and gave it 4 stars. It does exactly what it set out to do, and did it so good
