My real rating is a 3.5, but not enough to round up to the 4. The plot had a nice premise, was fast paced, and the typical YA romance helped make this an easy and enjoyable page turner. The ending or the last Amusement was slightly disappointing and I don't think I'll be continuing this series.
Even though I guessed who the antagonists were I loved this book! It's so classically YA, it was really nice to get back to that. I'm definitely going to check the other books from this series out of the library at some point.
I hate how addicted to these books I am! I started FOUR other books this week, gave up on them, and gave in and bought this box set AND PAID FOR SAME DAY SHIPPING AND FINISHED THIS BOOK IN 4 HOURS. RICHELLE MEAD WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME. I love you. And your charatcers. I'm going to go start the third book now and maybe get an hour of sleep tonight.
Richelle Mead...there are so many names I want to call you right now that are totally inappropriate for the Internet and Goodreads. So instead I'll say this, *SPOILER* I haven't cried this much reading a book since the first time I read Deathly Hallows. I am no longer a solid human being, I am a puddle. A sad, sad puddle with a major tension headache from literally sobbing through the last chapters.
There were points in this novel when I thought my jaw had detached and become a permanent fixture on the floor. Maybe it's because I'm marathoning this series and I'm head over heels obsessed with these characters, but I don't understand the low ratings. To each their own, but I'm hooked.
This book went a little slower for me in terms of excitement. Most of the plot twists I was able to predict relatively early and found only a few minor, shocking moments. *Spoilers* I am not a fan of love triangles and I'll be expecting a lot of clean up to happen in the last novel with Rose and Dimitri. As far as the trial goes, I hope that doesn't take up the majority of the last novel but I'll find out in a day or two. So far the first and third novels are definitely my favorite.
I loved this series. I was really worried about how all the lose ends would get tied up but for the most part everything ended swimmingly! I'm happy to say I saw all the shocking moments a few chapters before they unfolded, which normally annoys me but this time I just considered myself really in tune with this novel and the characters. I'm incredibly happy I picked up this series. It was a great way to start off 2016 and I hope I'll come back to it one day. My favorite novel of the series is still #3.
I really enjoyed this book! I'm not sure what I was expecting when I began reading it but holy crap it was nothing like what I expected. It was so much more fantasy based then what I've been reading lately that I felt so relaxed reading it: all my real world cares just drifted away. I also kept coming back to the beginning of the novel, how we meet our protagonist, and how freaking much she changes throughout! Holy character development batman! It was a really inventive and creative story and I'm currently searching for a way to purchase the next two books in this series. Also, it feels great to finally understand the cover art!
I really wish I had read this book quicker! I kept putting it down when the point of view changed from character to character and I think I lost alot of the momentum of the plot. Overall it was a great story, one of my fears realized in a new light. I've read a few alien invasion novels and this one had a new spin that left me thinking. I loved the odes to Shakespeare scattered throughout and I'm really curious about Evan. Curious enough to pick up the next novel? I'm not sure yet...
