This one's between a 3 and a 4 for me. For some reason I can't remember how it ended...
The language and dialogue in this novel was a little more immature and naive than what I have been used to reading. It took away from the development of the story and the development of the relationships between characters a little bit, which is why this didn't get 4 out of 5 stars from me. I really enjoyed the plot and it was a nice, easy read to break up the monotony of college assignments.
To me the first novel felt a little more fast paced. Perhaps that is because I was just being introduced to this world and everything was new but this one lacked a little something or other. It was a great read that progressed the plot, world building, and character development but I'm really hoping for more action in the third novel.
This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2015 and I feel let down, maybe even a little lied to...okay I'm being slightly dramatic. I was expecting so much more involving the world of nightmares and way less in terms of the Harry Potter Sorcerer's Stone plotline. I mean...*spoiler* even the I Am Lord Voldemort/ Tom Marvolo Riddle trick was used. Towards the end it felt a little more like a fanfiction than an original story. It made me pretty sad. I had such high hopes for you!
How stinking cute is this story?! It took me a little longer than I would have liked to finish but I'm glad I dragged it out in the end. For my first finished book of the new year I'd say I'm off to a great start.
Wow. This book was beautiful and haunting and so refreshing from what I've been reading lately. It was a tale so uniquely woven through all the characters, all tied to Ava. It was a very impressive novel and one I won't soon forget. Seriously, I am speechless.
*Spoiler trigger warning* This novel does deal with rape and mutilation. This could be triggering for some, but I thought it was done in the way it needed to be done for this novel and these characters. Tasteful isn't exactly the words I'd use to describe it, because I don't consider any rape (real or fictional) to be tasteful, but I think you get my point.
