"Forgetting is dangerous. Forgetting is how the monsters come back."

This book took me completely off guard in the best possible way. I didn’t know much about it going in, and honestly that made it an even wilder experience. So I won’t say much plot wise here, but I’ll say that it was eerie and surreal and unexpected. But it was also deeply thought provoking and heart achingly beautiful. It was also a story about a trans girl, and the girl was just trans, and that was it? I love stories about trans coming of age journeys, but having stories where being trans is just normal is really important too. My soul felt very nurtured, and I highly recommend this book! I also listened to this on audio, which I recommend, as the narrator did a phenomenal job.

The second hand embarrassment is just too much for me 😭

When I read Legends and Lattes back in December, it was cute and fun, but not what I’d hoped it would be. I wanted depth of character and exploration into the way capitalism drains the life and joy straight from our bones, but how we can still find corners of the world to cuddle up in, and people to help support us as we try to carry on. Can’t Spell Treason without Tea was more than what I’d hoped it would be. It gave me that depth I was looking for, and more. It was cute. It was SO GAY. And the romance was so tender and soft and gentle. I loved our two main characters so much. They were each so individual, with their own strengths and weaknesses that complimented each other when in a relationship together. It was also free from the silly drama that’s often in romance—just there to be drama and fill the “conflict” quota for the novel. While there were disagreements (mainly over each character not taking care of themselves and ending up hurt in the process), there weren’t any stupid fights over trivial things. Their love for each other was too strong for that, and it showed in every heart beat of the story.
