I received a free copy from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

CW: rape, disordered eating, self harm

The first 25% or so of this book was pretty hard for me to get through as I really couldn't get into it. The remainder.... well, let's just say I powered through hoping for redemption. I'd say I was let down and this book rubbed me the wrong way on more than one occasion.

Really enjoyed this audiobook, essentially a "Hamilton in the making" story.

3.5/5

A beautiful journey of the highs and lows of friendship with someone who is not quite like you.

3.5/5

I wanted to like this one more! I'm still stuck on the waitlist for Irby's other books, which I am still looking forward to listening to. I did like that this one was raw and vulnerable, especially about the uhhhh ~joys~ of chronic illness. There's also a few sections that are recipes and honestly, these were hilarious to listen to as oppose to reading.

An interesting coming of age story. The artwork is very beautiful, but much darker than the graphic novels I typically pick up.

CW: depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, self harm

This book is dark, but super funny and a perfect choice on audio. I especially enjoyed the chapters about Jenny's rheumatoid arthritis cause y'all know I love some chronic illness representation. Also, fun fact - I, too, have had a staph infection on my head and it was very awful and I thought I was going to die (okay, this fact isn't fun, but it's relevant).

CW: drug addiction, attempted suicide, cancer, death of a parent

WOW. If you're gonna pick up this book, I highly recommend the audio because it is WILD.

CW: racial slurs, cancer, child abuse

Big shoutout to BBBC for getting me to pick this one up! I don't know that I would have picked it up had it not been a book club choice, but I absolutely loved it. It is rare that I give 5 stars to an audiobook, but this story was so beautiful.

CW: racism, physical/emotional abuse, domestic violence, drug/alcohol addiction, depression, suicidal ideation, attempted suicide

100% recommend this book on audio. It is engaging and vulnerable, beautiful and funny. I loved hearing more about Karamo's background and personal life that you don't really hear about on Queer Eye. I also would like Karamo to read me a bedtime story each night because his voice is so calming and lovely.

CW: domestic violence, molestation, abortion, suicide, fatphobia, eating disorder, islamophobia

Really enjoyed this one!
