I really enjoyed this. I emotionally connected with and felt for the main character. The way the story is structured kept me interested the whole way through. I wasn't sure what way the author was going to with the ending but I like what she did. I also really appreciate the Waterstones extra essay at the end of my copy as I think it made me like the book even more.

I have mixed feelings with this book. The first half needs some serious editing, it could definitely stand to loose 100-200 pages there. It does start to ramp up at the halfway point which I was really glad for but it didn't sustain that excitement and I really struggled at the end to care about what was happening. The characters didn't really develop, I feel they were largely the same people at the end as they were at the start. The only thing that will keep me reading this series is the fact that I do quite like the lore and obviously the dragons. So overall, it had some good parts but was on the whole just a bit boring to me.

This book what just okay to me, I didn't hate anything but I also didn't love anything either. I struggled a little with the first half but liked the second half quite a bit more. No bad critiques for the author I just think I didn't resonate with the content as much as other people. Maybe it just wasn't for me. Still an interesting read though!

This may be one of the best graphic novels I've ever read. It deals with some big topics such as oppression, xenophobia, war, heritage and much more. I fell in love with the characters, especially Aiza, Doruk, and Husni. I think the authors have done a great job of telling this story and the art style matches so well. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that the end felt a little rushed, it could have used a bit more time I think.

Eh this was fine. I think the topic could have been explored more deeply and had more shocking moments. This is marked as horror, and it is I guess - just very light horror. Nothing really surprised me but I did end up caring for the characters and I flew through it in pretty much one sitting as it kept me intrigued throughout, so I'm glad I read it still.

This book just really wasn't for me. I read this for a book club and otherwise I never would have picked it up.
There's no resolution to anything and there is way too much focus on certain subjects for it to be for no reason *cough* the incest *cough*. I like character focused books but when I say this has almost zero plot, I mean it, which makes many of the conversations feel a bit random as they don't relate to much.
But I understand this author is well loved so I maybe it's just a preference thing.

I really enjoyed the storyline which followed death himself in this book. I found his developments intriguing and the ending heartwarming. I think that part makes this still definitely worth reading. However, the other storyline was just not for me, it was fun but it was so all over the place it just ended up feeling a bit like a chore to read. Overall still a good book though!

A great continuation of the first book. Each of the stories are still heart wrenching and heart warming at the same time. None of them grabbed me as much as they did in the first book but they were all still great reads.

I really wanted to love this book but I just didn't. I liked the set up and the characters themselves. I also read it really quickly due to the short chapters and it being a short book overall, but also because I was always interested to see what would happen next.
I think where it lost me was just I didn't find the relationships convincing at all. It was definitely a case of telling not showing throughout the entire book and the relationships developed instantly due to the shortness of the book. So I just never really grew to care for the characters. This problem in a character driven book just meant I was a bit bored throughout.
However, I still enjoyed it for what it was. I do really appreciate the author's depiction of emotionally abusive relationships. I'm still glad I read it.

I really enjoyed this book. I think the writing style is really accessible for people outside the field and it's full of really intersting facts, some of which I did not already know (I'm a marine biologist obsessed with the deep sea). I think it puts across a really important message and anyone interested in this topic should read it! Only not a 5 star for me as I did already know many of the facts and so nothing wowed me but I definitely think this would be different for other people!
